Official 2008 Results thread (ED1)

Hard to chance you, except that if you accept the theory that there is not a big difference between the criteria for ED and RD admission, if you are deferred ED I don't see why you would get admitted RD unless you do something at school in your senior year (1st half, of course) that makes you a stronger applicant. Also, what are your ECs?

WCAS.. I dont agree. Reality checks are good, but I believe Tufts could just outright reject if there wasn't a chance. They didn't do that. Just because you didn't stand out enough in that EDI round, that's not to say you are completely out of range. I think submitting first semester grades and maybe a letter if Tufts is still your 1st choice are both good places to start.

As for chancing, I have learned in very short order that to the untrained eye and without the context of the whole, there is no way to determine how one student might fit into the entering classes puzzle. I think that is why they publish percentiles of applicants and average scores etc. If you are in that ballpark along with a rigorous course load available at your school, then I think it comes down to essays, recommendations etc.

Good luck to you.

I agree with Modadunn, Tufts really thought that you have a solid shot in regular decisions and that is why they deferred you. When they review applications I am sure they will still know that Tufts was your ED I, and so I do agree with Modadunn again - send a letter of affirmation affirming that Tufts is still your number one.

And don't worry, a deferral is better than a rejection -- so much better because even if you get rejected (god forbid) regular round - you're going to have acceptances coming in left and right so that one rejection, from one school that even if it was your number 1, it won't look so bad and you won't feel as bummed as you may have if you had gotten rejected a few days ago - like I was.
