A buddy of mine told me about this interesting website (btw he got in but Not me LoL) Haas Reject, Appeal Reject (Found out this morning and finisn SIR to Davis by noon ^^) going to Davis over all other UCs. Guess sobizzle and I have something in common. Goldtree, if I am correct, you didn’t meet deadline. I think it was May 15 for Cal and 22 for UCLA

kittridge,

What’s your friend’s major?

honestly, don get ur hopes high with this thread. Berkeley is the MOST Selective in applications. the appeal to berkeley is a shot in the dark with no bullet in the gun, not some kind of another chance where u present them with some other info. That info must be very appealing.
Picture this yourselve
1/ they might have recieved around 500 appeals. ALl of them do have 2 -3 reco letters where each professor/employer talks of ur achievements at work/school and describes u as a person. This don’t matter to them much.
2/ even if u get a 4.0 this semester, that won’t account to any overall grade change as ur gpa will more-or-less be the same.

3/ appeal in their perspective is more of an excuse based SOP, where all we do is start talking where it all went wrong, and what have you learnt.

stay strong though

It’s not over until it’s over

You should really see an Adcom at Berkeley. Their admittance rates for Econ isn’t that selective, around 19-20%. With those stats above, you should have been a shoe-in. Literally… Unless you never completed a TAP program or honors. There’s a lot, a lot of emphasis placed on honors with regards to the UC system. Even at the high school level. UCLA/Berk expects students to complete the most rigorous path offered by their school. If you don’t do that and meet the cut off GPA, there’s almost no shot at getting in.

I was accepted to both UCLA/Berk with similar stats but a lower GPA, 3.85 with TAP/Honors completed in the hardest honors courses I could find, Biol/Calculus/English.

ECs are great for other schools, privates/ivies etc… but for the UC system its all about the rigor of the coursework and test scores(not applicable to transfers).

There’s a system at UCLA/Berk with regards to studying and that’s study groups. If you don’t use a study group, you definitely, definitely need to be smart to graduate on time. And community colleges don’t really emphasize that method of study(group study). So there’s no way of telling through your application whether you study best with a network.

Its not really study groups, per say. You’ll all understand once you arrive to UCLA or Berkeley.

Rejected :(

Trying to go UCD->CAL

I expected it, though…

@ Goldtree. I’m very surprised by Berkeley’s decision on your appeal. First off I’m confused as to if you were a freshman or transfer applicant? But with a 4.0 as a transfer app and the stats you quoted I’m very surprised they didn’t take you the first time around.

Still waiting on my end. Looks like Monday.

Hey!

Just wanted to let everyone know that my status changed today…[:

My friend who appealed changed as well, not sure if it was today or yesterday, but she was pretty stoked!

So good luck to you guys! && maybe we’ll see each other up there?! ;D

Rejected. I was surprised my status changed today though.
I guess it would have been too good to be true if both of my appeals went through, looks like I’m going to UCLA!

Congrats sakurax!! first admit on this thread!

1-12…

still waiting
