Honors, awards, or recognitions: I got the highest grade in a few classes but nothing special.
Essay (be honest): Looking at some of the other accepted students and their wonderful academic record, I think that my essay must have had to be amazing for me to get in. It talked about how I was passionate about service but I was so proud of it that I used it at a few other schools after I tweaked it.

General Comments: Cool, I got accepted while in the bottom 25% of the acceptees and have a GPA way below UF’s 4.2 average.

I got in!! I’ll post my stats later. I’m gonna celebrate first!! :)

Dude, getting into UF is nothing special if you’re in IB. Get over it, seriously.

^
To some extent that is true. I don’t know why UF loves IB kids so much, but they seem to have a higher admittance rate.

^Yes, to some extent. A lot of IB students still get rejected by UF, nonetheless.

I’m extremely upset. I reluctantly paid the tuition deposit for FSU as it is my last resort. I applied for Summer B at UF. The admissions dept at UF is bipolar in my opinion.

General comments (how you feel, any advice for future applicants, etc): Waiting to hear from other schools but this is great!!! I was rather nervous!!! Congratulations to everyone who got in and those who didn’t good luck at other schools!! **Future UF applicants, UF GPA 4.0+ + Class Rank top 10% seems to be a shoe in.

““Dude, getting into UF is nothing special if you’re in IB. Get over it, seriously.””

Uh, who were you referring to? You’re the only person in IB who has posted something which could be considered “freaking out.” lr2010 isn’t in IB, as far as I know. Either way, your comment was unnecessarily rude because IB students work their butts off… Most kids who are IB students with subpar GPAs can (and do, if they drop out) get 4.0 unweighted GPAs in normal classes with a few APs. It’s not like they’re just handing out acceptances like candy.

That said, it’s not just UF. All of the colleges love IB kids for some reason, and they get a lot of leniency. I see so many kids who are absolutely horrible students getting into good colleges and actually getting lots of scholarships (mostly from USF) because they were able to maintain a decent GPA by copying other kids’ homework even though their test scores sucked.

Last year, five out of the 11 IB kids in my school didn’t get into UF and this year, not all of them got in. It’s true that UF loves it’s IB kids, but saying it’s nothing special isn’t true either.
