For the 2001 exam, it was customs duties. Income tax came slightly later as progressivism began and I answered sales taxes today in class and got it wrong. My teacher had the college board booklet for the answer key.

take the sat II sparknotes us history practice tests, they’re pretty good. there’s 7 available too!

Can someone PM me the 2008 MC? Thanks in advance!
Oh, and why is the AP Pass Scoring calculator standard so low? My teacher said you need at least a 60 and 6’s on the essay for a 5.

So now that Ive studied up on the guilded age, I could kick that essays butt But what exactly is everyone referring to with american imperialism?

American Imperialism refers to our foreign policy in Latin America in the early 1900s. Roosevelt Corollary, dollar diplomacy, big stick diplomacy, the Philippines, etc.

Oo, I really hope it is on American Imperialism! That i could do really well on. Completely forgot the Gilded Age haha. Civil War would be nice. I’d absolutely love something from the 40s to the 80s but I doubt that’s going to happen.

What other topics are you guys going to brush up on tomorrow?

I feel like there’s a strong chance it will be on the Civil War (150th anniversary as stated somewhere in the thread).
Anyone know how to write a good hook/transition?

I’m just hoping its not on Antebellum/Jackson Era/anything 1800-1850 because I don’t remember anything x|

Can someone PM me the 2008? Thank you very much!

Same, if someone has the 2008 MC, I can give you the 2001 and 2006 :)

**Azyrk13 **- In response to your question about this question from the 2001 released test:

In 1890 the most important source of revenue for the federal government was
a. Income taxes
b. Inheritance taxes
c. Sales taxes
d. Liquor taxes
e. Customs duties

The correct answer is not A or C, it is actually E.

Someone mentioned the Revenue Act of 1862 as being the originator of income tax, which is correct, but it was only in place during the Civil War and was phased out soon afterwords (by 1866). Income tax was not a consistent source of revenue for the federal government until after the 16th Amendment was ratified in 1913.

Sales tax has never been (and is not today!) the most important source of revenue for the federal government (sales taxes are generally paid to a state or municipality).

Customs duties (aka tariffs or taxes or goods coming into the country) were the primary source of income for our federal government for most of the country’s existence. This is why tariffs were such a big political issue throughout the 19th century.

Sorry for the treatise; I just couldn’t leave that sitting out there incorrectly.

^ Thanks for that! Don’t be sorry, it’s extremely helpful to everybody!

Planning on reading REA twice, doing the practice tests, and working on essay thesis.
Any other good ways to prepare/cram?

US History Cram packet, google it

This is taking soo looooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnggggggggg. I don’t think I can take anymore history !

I decided to stay home today to skim through some parts of AMSCO I was not completely familiar with - I had already read the book entirely the week before. So far I’ve read up through the Civil War era, and I plan on skimming through the rest of the book and then take a complete exam to practice my timing and whatnot.

Good luck to everyone who decided to stay home to study!

I agree. Good luck to anyone who decided to stay home. :)

Going through direct hits then taking practice exams.

Check out the US History in a Flash Facebook page. It has some great tips on writing DBQs and FRs posted today.

Stayed home to finish my second read of DH. 2/3 done !! Then looking at their blog, and then practice tests.

How was everyone told to label the documents for their DBQ? MY teacher told us that just stating the name of the document is good enough and that you shouldn’t explicitly state, Doc A, Doc B… etc. What is everyone planning on doing?
