*OFFICIAL* 2012-2013 AP European History Thread

so what was the dbq on this year?

I thought the MC was alright for the most part, except for the last few on the 1960’s onward, those I totally guessed on.
The DBQ was a gift from the heavens, I usually am really slow at writing DBQs but I somehow managed to finish this one before the suggested time was up and use all the documents.
The first set of FRQs…hahaha I completely BSed #4. When I was halfway through my first body paragraph I realized I had written a completely wrong thesis, but I didn’t have space or time to go back and fix it so I just wrote the right thesis in my conclusion. Will that still give me the thesis point?
When I saw the women’s FRQ in the second set, I almost cried tears of joy. I didn’t even look at the other two prompts, what were they anyway?

It was on the arguments for and practices put towards religious toleration in Europe between the 16th and 18th centuries.

@crystal19
one was analyzing the factors that led to the rise of authoritarian regimes in the period of 1919-1939 (between the world wars) and idk the other one
was #4 the one on Newtonian physics vs. Darwinian biology?

@root
Aww the authoritarian regime would have been a good one too haha, still sticking with my girls though. :stuck_out_tongue:
Yup that’s the one! I was kind of confused on how to organize the essay, so it turned out pretty weird.

So since Russia apparently isn’t right-wing (I honestly had no idea, since I learned most of the interwar period this morning at around 8 a.m) I will get a 0 right? :(

to be honest I didn’t have time to write more than a thesis and introductory paragraph for that one. id be happy with a 1 haha
and for the first one I did #3, compare the motives of European expansion in 1450-1750 vs in 1850-1920, or something like that. I thought that one was pretty easy and I feel like im gona get a good grade on it

I thought I’d be totally okay with the multiple choice and struggle with the essays. Oh, how wrong I was. I probably missed half the multiple choice questions, PLUS I struggled with the essays. I think I did pretty well on the DBQ, barely decently on my first FRQ, but completely bombed the second FRQ, as in, I only wrote a weak thesis and the first body paragraph… I’m praying for a passing grade at this point… Which I guess makes sense, considering that a) I didn’t actually take the class, b) I didn’t have time/was too lazy to review pre-French-Revolution material, and c) I basically learned most of the 20th century stuff this morning during band and precalc.

@root4761, I did the art one, lol.

There was a dbq document about treaty between sweden and holy roman empire for silesian protestant
Does that document support toleration? Also, did that happen after the defeat of Holy Roman Empire or Sweden?

Yeah it supported toleration

Wait, if you have incorrect facts (I don’t as far as I know, but for inquiry’s sake) do you get a 0 on your FRQ? That would be horrible.

I thought the dbq about silesia supported toleration but i think i put pov wrong… I was confused if Sweden won or HOly Roman Empire won and signed the treaty…

It wasn’t a treaty guys it was an AGREEMENT between a Lutheran leader and the Emperor of the HRE. I actually had a different thesis. I said that there was a group that believed in toleration thus causing actions for tolerant policies. I said there was a faction that saw one religion as a unifying aspect of a country and thus caused policies that prohibited other religions. I then said that there was still another faction that found the surrounding religions offensive but still acted with religious toleration (so something of an intermediate). The Silesia agreement I put here because the Lutheran’s were given private worship but in public they were outlawed. The other agreement for a Church in a city went in here too.

People who classified Russia as right-wing will definitely not get a 0, unless Russia was the only country you talked about. I made that mistake, but only in one paragraph. I’m guessing if your other stuff about Italy/Germany is good you can still get a decent score. I wouldn’t be surprised if they told the graders just to ignore anything about Russia, because I’m sure a lot of people made that mistake, and honestly left-wing authoritarianism in Russia was fairly similar to right-wing authoritarianism elsewhere. The big thing on FRQs is if the mistake detracts from your overall argument. In the case of Russia I don’t think it does, because many of the same factors accounted for the rise of authoritarianism in Russia as elsewhere

@RivingtonRebel Nope.

My groupings for the DBQ were:

1) governments/leaders for toleration.
2) Intellectuals for toleration
3) Governments/leaders for uniformity/suppression.

Are we supposed to put our identification sticker (the id sticker) on the essay booklet? I didnt do it and just wrote the initials on the back and front of the booklet… Also, in the booklet are we supposed to put like 1A-1 something like that on the right upper corner where it said to put the number we are answering? I only put 1 or 3 (the question number that i am answering instead of like 1A-1 stuff like that- cuz thats what i saw on the sample esaay on collegeboard website). There were no forms right? I only found one form for frq and dbq…

For the DBQ, my three groupings were:

  1. They supported religious toleration for economic reasons.
  2. They supported religious toleration for social and moral reasons.
  3. Conservative, traditionalist monarchs did not support religious toleration because it took away some of their power.
    Something like that

@PlayerZero: Good, a lot of people I know wrote about Russia too.
I did the Weimar Republic and Russia and I felt like my paragraph on Germany was better than the one on Russia, so let’s hope for the best :)
