**OFFICIAL** 2013-2014 AP Art History Thread

@APDestroyer‌ it was DEFINITELY Rembrandt!

lol^

@APDestroyer‌ , 24 hours?? Holy cow that’s cutting it close. You must have spent each one of those hours cramming. I think that’s probably the amount of hours I spent studying, but over the past 2 weeks rather than 1 day. Usually I’m a crammer too, but I knew I couldn’t do that for Art History if I wanted a five… don’t think I’ve studied this much for any other test in my life lol.

It was a lot better than I thought it would be, but wow that was a long exam! I think it would have been a lot better if I not just completed the AP Spanish exam about 15 minutes before starting this one.

For the first essay, about landscape, was architecture an acceptable choice? Also, if you get a piece wrong (0) your maximum score on the essay is 5, does anyone know if that will kill my score?

Overall thought the exam was average, not easy but not as hard as expected

I was wondering what you guys think about the curve on the test. Was this one normal? Extra easy? Extra difficult? I wanna know bc I feel like I got 3s on most of the SA and maybe a 5/7 on the big essays. The multi choice went VERY well though. So, clearly I’m right on the line of 4/5.

Also, how long were your SAs? Mine were like half a page to three-quarter (I write really small though…)

@APDestroyer‌ The questions asked to attribute the painting, which means which period did it come from and give the characteristic. You did not have to name the artist of the painting, it won’t be counted.

@APDestroyer‌ @RadicalReize‌ I think the question asked for the artist as well as the attribution but I’m not sure, regardless it was Rembrandt

dye

what did you guys think about the second long essay? the prompt was a little confusing to me so I’m not sure how well I did on it :/

@wearyscholar‌ Was architecture permitted for that one? I thought the wording was weird also. I wasn’t really sure what exactly they wanted

Can you guys explain how it was Rembrandt? I thought it was Caravaggio because of the chiaroscuro effect of the painting (there is a single light source and it shines throughout the painting much like Calling of St. Matthew.) Man I just want a 4 :(

@dongkimkr95‌ the light came out from within the figure not from an external source like in night watch and it was a self-portrait like others he had done. Will you please tell me if architecture was allowed for the second long essay, about landscapes? Thanks

@dongkimkr95 yeah it was definitely Rembrandt; Caravaggio was not one for self portraits (really, it was mainly northern europe that was really into self portraits) @johnny135 it depends on what you wrote about and how you tied it into the prompt…what did you write about?

@wearyscholar‌ the great stupa and San chi from India and temple of Ramses II Egypt

The prompt was about reflecting cultures I said Buddhism for India and Power/afterlife for Egypt

@RadicalReize‌ I’m pretty sure the question was about the artist.

I had a hard time what the second long essay question was asking… what the hell are issues with identity?

@jfleit18‌ , issues with identity have to do with the loss of individualism in the modern world, or an increasing sense that people are “fake”.

@johnny135 Ummm I mean those choices are great for talking about how they reflect their respective cultures but how did you tie it into landscapes? @collegeman5 then do you think that talking about andy warhol was appropriate for the second long essay? I talked about his Marilyn Monroe piece

@wearyscholar‌ well the Ramses one is carved into the side of a mountain and mimics the landscape. The Stupa I don’t recall. I realize now these weren’t the best choices but I just am wondering whether they will kill me score like drop it from a 5 to a 4.

Also, I talked about The Marilyn Diptych for the essay about identity and I think it is what they were looking for be. It barely made it in their range if after 1960.
