Decision: Accepted as a sophomore transfer!

I don’t want to go through all those topics, so I’ll summarize haha.

-SAT: 1950
-High School GPA: 4.5 weighted, 3.7 unweighted
-College GPA: 4.0
-I took 8 AP’s in high school, and I took 17 credit hours each semester in college.
-My essay was just an honest account of why I wanted to transfer, I think I had good reasons so it was a decent and well-organized essay. Nothing special or creative!
-No recommendations
-Extracurriculars in both high school and college were ehhh, just a few clubs and music groups.

I’m so excited!!! If anyone have any other questions I’d be happy to answer them, I’ll be checking this page often to see who else I’ll be going to school with next year :)

ACCEPTED

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I like to think I’m a pretty good writer.
[] Weaknesses: Math skills. My middle/high school didn’t bother teaching them.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I have a high GPA and decently high standardized test scores. I also think being instate helped (though I’ve heard this isn’t the case with transfers). Also I’m decently involved on campus, though I could be a lot more.
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Didn’t apply anywhere else. [/ul][/li]General Comments & Advice: For those who were accepted, congratulations. I hope we find Chapel-Hill to be everything we hope it is, and I truly hope you have a pleasant experience there. For those who were waitlisted, I wish you the best and I urge you to not lose hope. For those who were rejected, I know that words cannot assuage a disappointment. I encourage you to either try again, as some have, or find those opportunities available to you that are not available to those at Carolina, and make the best of them. My time at a small mountain college has taught me that opportunities exist everywhere, it’s simply up to you to make something of them.

[] Common Awards (AP Scholar, honor roll, NM things, etc.): uh, honor roll I guess… I’m terrible at remembering these things[/ul]

Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (name, grade levels, leadership, description): 6 years cheerleading (sporadic) 2 years were high school cheer - freshman/senior year… varsity, 4 years competitive cheer, level 4 senior coed (for anyone that’s well-versed in the all-star cheer world), *not sure if this counts but… Show Choir 10th grade
[] Job/Work Experience: Worked Junior year, first semester of college; babysitting
[] Volunteer/Community Service: Captain of Relay for Life team for my dorm
[li] Summer Activites: N/A[/ul]
[/li]

**Transfer Essays/b:[ul]
[] Transfer Essay: I included a quote (which I then expanded from), talk of personally reaching out to people in Carolina, did a lot of comparing, talk about what was missing at NYU. So, idk. Whatever that sounds like. Definitely not below 7.
[] Extracurricular Essay: Talked about my role as captain of the Relay for Life team, organizing events/fundraising/leading my team/supporting my team/promoting events/etc. etc. In a subtle, implied way, it also says something about how the role has helped me grow. Not my greatest work; didn’t spend much time on it. MAYBE a 7.
[] Supplement Essay: N/A
[] Additional Essays: Didn’t write an additional essay; however, I did write a quick thing about the fact that I attended so many schools, explaining why.

[] Recommendations (teacher’s subject, 1-10 rating, details):

Other[ul]
[] U.S. State/Territory or Country: I think I’m a FL resident?
[] School Type: Public HS/private university
[] Ethnicity: Black, white, Japanese (multi-racial)
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket Range: Upper middle-class
[] Hooks (URM, first generation, recruited athelete, development): None I can really think of… My father grew up in Carolina & attended NC State, but I don’t believe I mentioned that and am not sure it would’ve mattered much. Lol.[/ul]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Probably my essay. It really showed my interest in the university. Also, my GPA is pretty good - especially since I attend a college with “prestige.”
[] Weaknesses: I don’t like my SAT/ACT scores.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Mixture of my essay and my academics.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Only applied to Carolina[/ul]

General Comments & Advice:
Maintain your grades while also challenging yourself. Learn about the university. I was already emotionally-invested in UNC before I even got accepted (which is good, but could’ve been bad if I was rejected) because of how much I’d researched - talked to current students, read reviews. Also spent a good amount of time on their website too, haha. Give yourself time to write a good, well-thoughtout essay. You really want to capture the essence of what draws you to UNC… without sounding fake. I’m not sure if that makes sense. But, maybe this’ll help: you know when you see that one cheerleader that is just - overly-spirited? Don’t be that chick. Be honest. Do NOT just tell them what you think they want to hear.
