It appears that the new Coca Cola Scholarship is now up! I was one of the 250 finalists from last year, so be free to post any questions or comments below. This is an awesome scholarship opportunity, and I encourage everyone who is eligible to apply!

it depends. if you are greatly devoted and committed to a few clubs and organizations, i feel that the scholarship committee would value that more than spreading yourself thin over a lot of clubs and organizations

hello @fahrenheit1064, i’m glad you can help us mere mortals trying to pay for college!

I’ve heard that a large (perhaps the main?) part of winning the scholarship is demonstrating community involvement and extracurriculars. What is the “average” commitment of a Scholar? I have accumulated ~1000 hours over the past 4 years at a Cub Scout Camp, volunteering during the summers. I am in 5 pretty strong ECs (OOTM, debate, Student council, Mock Trial, Quiz Bowl) with some decent awards (World Finals for OOTM, states for debate, national tournament for Quiz bowl). Is this up to par with you and other winners? Thanks, and congratulations!

wow, your statistics look great! although i do agree a big part of winning this scholarship is demonstrating community involvement and being a part of a lot of extracurricular activities, the scholarship committee is more interested in what your passions are, and how you use those passions to help make the world a better place. for example, one of my passions is dancing, and so, on the application, i demonstrated my passion for dance by putting down how my dance team put on a performance for the sick children at UPMC. good luck :)

1) on the application under the academic activities, the options are <all> , completed, in progress, and not taken. What does <all> mean
2)My school offers math classes that encompass multiple subjects in one
Freshman year: accel 1 sophomore year accel 2 junior year accel 3 senior year: ap calc ab
so how would i answer the math section of the courses? </all></all>

I don’t see any place for elaborating on the application, did you elaborate? I guess you could put it in the title spaces. Some of my community activities you won’t know what it is until you look it up so I’m not sure where/how to explain it?

Do you think lack of activities within the school environment will cut someone out of the competition? My S didn’t engage in too many HS EC’s because his passion lies outside most of those groups.

My son is homeschooled and therefore does not have some of the activities that are listed such as yearbook or school newspaper. Should he leave those fields blank or should he list “none?”

Do you keep a filed NONE or blank, if you don’t have to put anything for some specific category. For example, I don’t have anything for Student Council in any grade, should I leave it blank or NONE?

@3boysssm i heard that because they get so many applications (~90,000) during the first round, the computer is programmed to pick winners following a certain algorithm. so, i would say, it’s maybe based on the amount of activities or how long your participated in your activities

@fahrenheit1064 thanks for the help.
The form asks how many APs and Honors courses are offered at my school. Do they mean ALL aps and ALL honors offered at my school for ALL 4 grades? If that’s case, even my guidance counselor would not know.
