I’m applying too! Just judging from the sheer number of applicants though, I don’t think I have much of a chance.

I’m also an applicant for this year. Best of luck you guys! I hope it won’t be an issue that I left the AP/honors total number spot blank since my school offers too many to count…

Hey guys, I’m an applicant too.
I was just wondering, did any of you all get a confirmation email after you submitted your app?
I didn’t and I was just wondering if either there wasn’t supposed to be any confirmation or if I did something wrong…

@SamusScipio no i did not… it said right after i had submitted to print out that notification because that will be our proof i don’t think any applicant got a confirmation email

When do you guys think they will release the semi-finalists?

@premedbound15 on the website, it says mid-November

I’m kinda glad I didn’t need a recommendation for this scholarship. I have exhausted my teachers and counselor with so many requests.

@ninadasiy, if you advance to the semifinalist stage, you’ll need two recs. but, that’s in december/january -ish :)

Guess how many people applied this year? 102,000 applicants…so that makes it harder than any ivy League college could ever be…

But, @SouthernHope, if you make it, it is that much more impressive!!

@fahrenheit1064 Do you remember any of the typical numbers from your group of scholars? Like SAT/ACT, GPA, number of EC’s and number of AP/Honors courses?

from what i remember, sat/act and GPA don’t weight a whole lot in this scholarship. my sat score wasn’t really that high (2100), and my gpa was ok (4.32). what really matters are your extracurriculars and involvement outside of school. On average, i would say most semifinalists and finalists are involved heavily in around 7-9 activities outside of school. By heavily, I mean hold leadership positions, etc. As for the number of AP courses and honors, the scholarship committee would look at your individual school, and see how many aps/honors it offers, and how much you have taken out of the available ap classes at your school. so, that number, as you can see, may vary from person to person

So is it safe to say that we will find out this coming weekend? I was looking through last years Coca Cola semifinalist thread and saw that they started to receive their notification around the 17th.

What i’ve heard is that no humans look at the applications at this point (though there’s likely human review at the end) instead, an algorithm sifts through the applications and looks at UW GPA, test scores, community service hours and (evidently most importantly) duration and quantity of those hours…so a person who’s worked with an organization for two plus years, for example, would get credit for that…and would get more credit if it were X number of hours… then there’s some sort of geographic mix and perhaps gender (can’t verify this)…and what else I don’t know…

(I don’t know about AP courses)

@SouthernHope, you are right. i believe that no people will physically look through all 100,000 + applications. otherwise, you guys probably wouldn’t hear back in such a short amount of time. in my opinion, getting selected as a semifinalist is pretty much like winning the lottery since its such a crapshoot, but once you’re in, you get the chance to really prove yourself through essays, in which actual judges will look through :)

My daughter got an e-mail at 3:05 MST today (half an hour ago) saying that she is a semi-finalist! So excited!

CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER!!!

Coca cola semi-finalist in Ohio!!!

Semi-finalist. Looks like there is a lot of work to be done now with the rest of the scholarship.

Ugh my application did not advance. Oh well. I feel better because it is not humans looking at the applications.

Rejected. Sucks because I thought I had a good shot (4.0UW, 35 ACT, 1k volunteer hours). Oh well, great job to all Semifinalists out there!
