Official 2014 Georgetown Transfer Thread

I personally would say no  But they’re very different! A good friend of mine transferred to Gtown last year from UCLA, and the experience is just very different- she’s also a gov major so that played a role. A lot of the decision should (in my opinion) be based on experience and atmosphere, whatever you would like in a school.

Strange, I contacted Georgetown and they told me that acceptance letters won’t be out until June and that it will be via Mail NOT email.

@abear19‌ Why are you transferring, if you don’t mind my asking? Between UCLA/Cal/Georgetown I’d say that in a general sense Cal and Georgetown are about the same in terms of selectivity and rigor, except Cal has insane science program and Georgetown has a great libarts/law/med setup. That said, the smartest chick I knew in HS went to UCLA and loves it there. I mean it’s whatever you want it to be; when I was at AU I hosted a prospective student whose dream school was Georgetown (he got rejected) and was deciding between UCLA and AU…just goes to show which schools fit you is the biggest thing. As for Berkeley, it’s the school I’d (want) be at if it weren’t for Georgetown.

@KingofSweden‌ I’m confident you’ll get in.

I got accepted to all those and waiting on G-town to make a final decision. Unfortunately my decision must come at the end of the month (May 31st) and I kinda wish I had an answer already so I could decide ASAP… I am transferring because I have always wanted to finish my BA. I just turned 30 and I know that I will be an organizer for life. It’s just that one dream that you don’t want to let go of and haunts you no matter how successful you are because it’s the thing you “didn’t do”

Never give up on your dreams people!!!

Heard back Wednesday with a yes from McDonough… Any other business students one here?

@ArchibaldTuttle There are quite a few reasons actually, but mainly it is because it is not the right fit for me and it is just too big. Also, Georgetown has always been my dream school, but I didn’t get in as a first year :frowning:

Also, something that may be helpful for y’all to know: in the Facebook group for accepted kids there’s only like 20 people, so that means they have to accept another ~130 more. Good luck!

@ArchibaldTuttle‌ are they from all five schools or only college and MSB?

@ArchibaldTuttle‌ I hope so, and not just because the other 130 aren’t technologically inclined lol

Junior Transfer Applicant here. Extremely nervous and really hoping I will get in as I am already living in D.C. interning at the department of commerce this summer. Bad HS stats, decent college stats but very good extracurriculars in my opinion. We will have to see what happens. I didn’t get an interview and applied late:(( I hope that doesn’t matter too much.

Just finished my last final… But still can’t breathe an air of relief. Gahhhh

How long did it take for Georgetown to get back to those who requested early reads?

@abear19‌ I requested an early read and they told me they could not give me one due to the complexities of the committee process.

@alr317 how long did it take them to answer?

Really? I actually have a deadline coming up very soon :frowning: Are they still saying June 1st or has anybody heard something else from them?

They told me June 1 at the latest… and it took them 3-4 days to get back to me but that’s because my counselor was traveling. The responses got quicker (almost immediate) once she returned to the office. @wellletshope‌ @abear19‌

According to protocol they can’t say anything else. My admission officer did tell me that there was lots of time of time left when I submitted some missing info… as committee decisions are still well underway.
Basically it’s not over until it’s over lol

I’m so nervous now, oh gosh. I got into Cal, so I have somewhere to go if I don’t get in elsewhere. I got rejected from WUSTL and am now waiting on Gtown and JHU. Commence waves of crushing self-doubt. Though, I guess if nothing else, my contact with adcom has been very pleasant and this wasn’t a traumatizing experience…

Is it too late to call for an early read? I need to get back to Cal by June 1st and sign up for summer classes if I don’t get into to Gtown.

AND CONGRATS TO EVERYONE WHO GOT IN! I’M REALLY HAPPY FOR YOU! :D

Hello all! I also was accepted last week. Does anyone know where we view financial aid? Thanks!!
