Official ACT October 26 Discussion THREAD

Reading killed me

The hurtled/hurdled question was a nice little curveball. I’m positive it was hurtled though, since hurdled references physically jumping over something (as opposed to hurtled, aka moving at a fast speed).

what did you guys say for the 4 stages of women’s rights/ whatever? None of the answers seemed to make sense
Also, the conflicting viewpoints in science, which ones thought the current model of the sun was wrong? I said 1 and 2 I think

I put heaved

crap, I think I said hurdled… I said no change, which one was that for hurtled/hurdled?

What did you all put for the question that had remittance as an answer choice?

hur·dle noun ˈhər-dəl
: one of a series of barriers to be jumped over in a race

hur·tle verb ˈhər-təl
: to move or fall with great speed and force
: to cause (something or someone) to move or go with great speed and force

Definitely was the latter. The context of it was something about skydiving from the edge of space or whatever. Can’t remember if it was “no change” or not… anybody know? All I know is that I went with hurtled, haha.

oh, that one was annoying, I think I said respite?

that was for hurtled @love, so you got it right. Also, for the women’s rights question @art it was listed in the second passage clearly (all of the things were in parentheses). And only the first scientist thought the model was wrong.

@Proflamel: I remember that one. I didn’t put remittance since I wasn’t familiar with the word. I’d remember my answer choice if I saw the other answers… do you remember any of the other choices?

Oh yeah! Which was it? I think I went with hurtle

hard to believe this was a “standardized” test when the September math may have been half the caliber of the October one. So bitter.

How does act expect us to know the difference between hurdle and hurtle

it was respite. a respite is a break or relief from something. So the cool water gives the penguins a respite from the heat.

@jman: Agreed with all of those actually. Niceeee! Makes me feel better. :p

Respite does sound right… might be what I put for that one (almost positive).

what did people say for the diagonal of the prism? I had no idea how to do that. And what about making the quadrilateral a square? like r must be…

What were the other choices for that one?

LoveArtForever-- I put scientist 1 thought it was wrong, it said that 2 and 3 both thought the theory was correct.

At least I got respite right then, but I think hurdled was no change??
And the second scientist said that our estimate of the sun’s heat is too low, so that’s why I thought both thought the model was wrong…

Is there anyway a -2 will be a 35 for English or is that out of the question?
