I don’t think this thread exists yet, so here we go. I’ll get things started:

I’m from India, lived in Singapore practically my whole life. I have academic interests in economics, political science, creative writing, sociology, math, history and international affairs.

Assuming I get my essays done in time, I’ll be applying as well. I’m a native Michigander thinking of majoring in history or biology, most likely, but physics is an outside possibility. At Amherst, I’d likely try to learn Russian, join a choir, and perhaps become a member of the Quiz Bowl team, assuming it isn’t completely dead (and if it is, then I’d do my best to revive it).

Definitely applying, though I think my chances are rather low… better crank out some awesome essays! (this one is priority over the 8 other ones I have to write XD)

I’m an Asian Jersey girl planning on majoring in English =D

So, I didn’t even consider Amherst until I got deferred from Brown (which is seriously no biggie, and is probably for the better). Once I started researching it, though, I found it beginning to steadily creep up my list of schools. Needless to say, I’m definitely falling in love with the school, and am actually looking forward to writing my supplement essay. =]

I’m a Spanish New Yorkrican (haha) girl looking to double major in English and Biology, byyy the way.

I visited Amherst on a whim while trying to find some places to apply to, and I have to say it really stuck on me. The campus was beautiful and I really liked the no gen ed thing they have going on there. I’m also definitely planning on studying abroad for a semester or a year, in Sicily or Rome, depending on the financial situation.

I’ll give you three guesses to figure out what I’m majoring in, and the first two don’t count :P

Oh, and I’m from a Caucasian guy from a tiny Connecticut town since we’re all sharing.

I am not 100% sure but I’m hoping this thread will persuade me to apply.

I know Amherst is very generous with their financial aid especially to visa students (I have lived in Southern Cal for eight years but I still haven’t been able to get my green card…)

Anyhow, I want to major something along the lines of Chemistry or Engineering.

Anything people want to report about Amherst that is noteworthy?

I’m in that crazy Indian pool, interested in English lit, Russian lit, creative writing, history, art history, philosophy, soc, psych…yes, I NEED that Open Curriculum.

Amherst is my first choice. I really, REALLY want to go.

My supplement essay is in the process of being churned through that “OHMYGODISUCKATWRITINGWHYDIDIWRITETHIS?!” editing blender. I’m probably not going to finish it until the 30th, at which point I will run around screaming for about 5 hours before I summon the nerve to submit it.

@QuasiProfound: where else are you applying? Amherst tops my list of LAC choices but I’m still hoping my Chicago deferral will turn into an acceptance in RD (fat hope though)

I took the prompt rather literally, incorporating both personal and argumentative elements into it. Out of curiosity, which prompt did you guys pick? I used the one on science.

I used the science one too. I didn’t spend long writing it though; everyone stressing over theirs makes me want to go back and check it over haha.

Yeah I’m worried that would happen so I PDF-ed it. Hopefully, that’ll reduce my temptation to mindlessly worry about it when I should be completing my other RD apps.
