*Official AP Art History Thread*

I used Caravaggio and Monet for the long essay about change in art.

I used the Bayeux Tapestry and the Palate of Narmer for the narrative art.

MC was hard, but there were some that were funny because my class made jokes about the weird vocab and stuff.

All in all, a tough one, but after writing 12 pages I could barely drive home.

you wrote 12 pages....wow......i feel dumb.....:(

yeah 12 pages is a lot... maybe you forgot to calculate that the first page is only 1/3 of a page for the essays. I wrote about 3.5 and 2.5 pages, so only about 6-7 pages. It just didn't seem like much to write about. I also spent 5-10 musing about the second essay question on what to write about for pre-1800 art.

I wrote a grand total of 6 pages total for short answers and long essays, I think I did well on the short answers and the MC but no so much on the long essays. :)

Anijen! Great choices for the essays. Caravaggio is a particularly good choice. Wondering - what were the weird words that you made fun of?

Hey sunnyboy, what is the reason behind the title "Art History champs?" It seems like you have a great program at your school. Do you have any statistics or anything like that to back it up? Just curious, =)

TTG

Yes, the title was bestowed upon us by the College Board. Take a look at this past weeks Newsweek magazine - the one listing the "top 100 high schools." Newsweek did the same thing two years ago. The Newsweek list is based solely upon the number of AP tests taken in a school divided by the number of seniors in the school. In short the ratio is based only upon QUANTITY not QUALITY. So the College Board responded with a statistic based upon both QUANTITY and QUALITY. Montgomery High School has one of the largest AP Art History programs in the US. Last year 152 students or 2/3 of the senior class took the course. ALL of the students scored 3 or higher. In fact 94 percent scored 4 or higher! So MHS had both QUANTITY and QUALITY. In its AP Report to the Nation the College Board named MHS the top AP Art History program in the world. What about this year? This year 210 students or over 80 percent of the senior class took the course. Our two teachers worked very hard to "defend our title." Our class always has 4 full poster displays - one on the topic we are studying, one on a featured artist, one on a specific title, and one that is thematic. The classroom is like an art gallery. Our teachers give us the notes so we can focus on the art. We have copies of Gardner's 12th edition on each desk and two large flat screen TV's. Our teachers have created CD's with over 2,000 images. They also use the internet and create power point displays. All of our tests are minature versions of the AP test. We had in-school, after school AND evening classes the last month. We had practice on every conceivable combination of questions - you know both images, you know one image but not the other, you have never seen either image. We also went to the MET in New York City twice. There is much more but I think this will give you an idea of the dedication our teachers and students bring to this course. How did we do on this year's test? Well all of the pictures were hits (meaning we had studied them) and all of the students believe they scored 3 or higher. We will find out in July.

wow....we have about 40 people taking the class in my school......all our class scored a 3 or higher too......but we dont have as many people taking the test....:)

Killer dude

man thats insane, my school would never do that kind of stuff lol.

hey, I'm just going to reawaken this thread...how did everyone do?

PS, sorry sunnyboy, after all my APs were over I didn't come back here until, well, now...the one I remember was "voussoir", any time anyone would come into the room with a pass for someone we would all shout that at the poor kid.

most of the AP classes at my school have at most 50 people taking them, but we do have like 23 AP subjects offer. Thats nuts sunnyboy.

Well the AP Art History results are now in. Of the 155 students who took the AP Art History exam, 150 scored 3 or higher. The overwhelming majority scored 4 and 5. Our average class size was believe it or not 30.

We just started Art History at our school this coming year and it was hard to even form one class of 15 - 20 kids...

I'm curious. Which high school in Atlanta do you go to?

Chattahoochee on the north side.

Thank you. Maybe we can help. We have amazing resources. A 500 page course outline, a killer 50 page study guide for the test and many other materials.

That would be great! We just hired a new Art History teacher that I have not even met yet. Usually first year AP teachers are often confused and thats why I have been checking out the Art History threads to get some good advice. Im sure he/she will be a great teacher but obviously we do not have a wealth of resources like your school does.

AIM me at michblue22 if you have any suggestions to help us out.

I'm taking this class next year. I'm told it's the hardest class in my school, because right from the start, every test is a mini-AP test. We usually get about 9-11 kids taking it.

Will be happy to help. But forgive my ignorance. What does michblue22 mean?
