I’ve noticed a lot of Bio FRQs ask for examples. Any list of examples of any kind?

are there any bozeman videos on pcr/bacterial transformation? Also, could someone explain nitrogen fixation?

Nitrogen fixation is fixing atmospheric nitrogen into a form plants can use, either assisted by root bacteria or by ammonifying bacteria in the soil.

what are the best examples of positive and negative feedback?

Positive feedback: Apples on trees releasing ethylene to rapidly increase the rate at which neighboring apples ripen and become red.

Negative feedback: Temperature regulation in us. When temperature goes over the set point (room temp) and we get hot, we sweat and vasodilate.

When we get cold, we get goosebumps, our skin hair sticks up, and our skin contracts.

Both of these things return our body to normal temp.

I’m so ready for most of the topics, but anatomy is killing me.

I’m also way more prepared for the Bio MC than the FRQs. :(

Positive feedback = a women going into labor with the rising levels of oxytocin–making the uterus contract and squeezing that baby out of there.

Negative feedback = there are a lot: insulin and glucagon are popular, or you can talk about the menstrual and ovulation cycles and the hormones that are released by the anterior pituitary during low levels of estrogen and progesterone.

Gahhh, I’m so scared for tomorrow )=

Same, Lesley. I want a 5 so badly!

Your best bet is to not let the test incite fear and just get a good night’s sleep. It really won’t be as bad as the prep books make it seem.

Me too! Are we going to discuss on this thread or a separate one?

Matugi, you’re so right.

let’s do a separate one

fun fact: my class never covered animals, systems, hormones, and we just skimmed through invertebrates, and my teacher told us not to self-study anything we didn’t cover.

I think about 16-19% of all bio test takers get fives, so I think (depending on the curve) we’ll all get good scores :)

and llilliann your teacher sounds horrible. We went over everything and still had 2 weeks to review

The test is so easy, don’t worry everybody just relax!

Since our class is AP/IB, I wrote all the FRQs in outline form for 2 years. I never practiced writing an FRQ question in essay form lol.

Is it bad if I only take one practice test? What about two? I’m running out of time…

I just want to stop studying and let the dice fall where they may.

There’s no point in studying this late. You won’t retain anything. And if you studied, even moderately, recently, you shouldn’t have a problem recalling the specifics. And doing the MC first will help you remember things for the FRQ. Now is the time to watch a movie.

i wish i had been in your class, bwblue. i feel like we chose depth over breadth for this test and that’s detrimental unless i get lucky with a specific frq topic that i know everything about. i’ve taken anatomy, but that was two years ago.

matugi, you can do whatever you want, you got an 80% on that 2008 practice exam from hell :)

my thoughts exactly cramthyme. I want to study government now (because I had a horrible teacher…)
