So I'm taking AP bio next year and I'm really excited for my first science AP, I've taken English and History before but I like Math and Science so much better, yay! Also, former test takers, how hard is the test? will it be pretty easy or really hard if I'm already great at sciences.

I’ll be taking my first AP science next year, Bio, as well! Yes, tips are greatly appreciated, and let’s have a good summer and brace ourselves :P

Next year’s test will be really, really hard because this years was easy. Know a lot of vocabulary and more studying=better score.

start studying early. do not, i repeat, DO NOT try to cram the weekend before the test. too much subject material for too little time and a too little brain

hardlyworkin is correct. You need to try to supplement your AP Bio class by studying sections for months. I didn’t do that and the test went pretty well but I got lucky. So take my advice and self-study alongside your normal course.

I’m taking Bio along with 3 other AP science exams. Should be a blast.

This advice is probably more suited for someone who is self-studying the course.

If you take it in school and have an even semi-coherent teacher, and you’re a pretty bright kid, you should be able to read Cliff’s the week leading up to the exam and get a 5. At least I did. My teacher wasn’t the best, she wasn’t the worst; we occasionally watched PowerPoint presentations until her vertigo came or she was too busy doing something unrelated to our class, then the rest of the week was just nothingness. Skimmed the book throughout the year, read Cliff’s the weekend before the exam, got a 5. I was lucky that I got fairly decent FRQs though… this years (IMO) were rather tough.

It does depend on your teacher. But I thought this year’s free response questions (in my opinion) were fairly easy compared to some past questions that may have required more specific knowledge. Take my advice as you will. My teacher wasn’t too good (we barely covered half of campbell before the AP test) but I think I probably got a 5 this year.

One very important thing to do is look at the different AP bio questions for the last 12 years (including this one), and from their realize all the different AP lab questions there where and look for one they have not used at all in those 12 years, or any they rarely used. I did that and luckily knew the transpiration one, and the dissolved oxygen one where going to be it this year. So it went all good.

I’m taking my first AP science next year too and I’m pretty pumped! Bio is a great subject!

Stay away from bad biology teachers!!! Seriously. If the teacher is good at your school, then take the class, if she sucks, might as well self study because these teachers will most likely slow you down.

AP Bio is mostly sheer memorization with a little bit of logic applied. Use discretion on what to memorize and what not to memorize - no need to be able to draw glycolysis for AP bio, for example. Flashcards are awesome. So are flashcard programs (ie Anki, Cuecard)

The powerpoints for Campbell are an excellent resource.

Im taking Ap bio this year. Im pretty bumped but very scared. Ive been reading a textbook and its tough as hell.

I’m taking it. Does Crash Course for AP Bio work?

Crash Course kicks ass on the history exams, but I haven’t heard much about its efficacy with Bio exams.

I took the AP Bio course, but didn’t take the exam…mainly because my AP Bio teacher was terrible. He was SOOOO slow. We barely got past the Kreb’s Cycle. -___-

If you are self-studying and are good at retaining most information you need, I would start 2 weeks before and read Cliff’s twice and another review book once.

The test this year was really easy, so yours might be hard…

Cliffs is awesome! And start studying ASAP! don’t have to study now, but working hard pays off for the test. Also, making a Quizlet account helped me a lot to remember vocab. I couldn’t have learned anything about plants without that. Btw, quizlet is an online/interactive flashcard site where you can share and use other ppl’s flashcards. sooooo helpful.

Well, they’re restructuring the course, according to my AP Bio teacher… don’t know how that’s going to work out.

Just avoid bad teachers.

I’m currently signed up to take AP Bio next year.

The restructured AP Bio curriculum takes effect in Fall 2012, meaning the first “new” test is administered May 2013. We, luckily, avoid the reshuffle.

I think I would like the restructuring, which includes “Reduce the breadth of content to promote conceptual understanding”
