Any tips for FRQs? I just recently had a test over Cell organelles/EndoMembrane System and Diffusion/Osmosis, and I didn’t do that great on the FRQ (6/10). This brought down my test grade considerably even though i did pretty good on the MC.

Hey guys just wanted to wish everyone luck for this exam. I took ap bio last year ( 9th ) with no prior biology courses or chemistry courses. My teacher was also very bad. He left half way through the year. Leaving behind some honors biology busy work. We essentially did nothing all year.

Coming around test time, me and a friend decided to hit the book. Not any special AP review book but the Honors book because we didn’t have a ap textbook. We read the majority, and did 1 mc practice exam from 2011. We both ended up with 4s. The test wasn’t too difficult, but did require memorization and more in depth detail on the subject. (He got a lot of environmental questions while I mostly got micro biology in the essays.)

Just wanted to share my story so everyone can know its a doable course gl!

DanceOrDie I am a junior right now and my school does not offer AP Biology so I am taking the equivalent of it at my local community college and I plan on self studying for the AP Exam. Since I am not taking an official AP Bio class, what would you recommend I do to prepare for the exam as of now. I plan on buying Cliffnotes 4th Edition which is the newest and the newest edition to Barrons. Would you recommend Campbell and how would I prepare for the labs on my own time?

nsojori09 You’re wrong CliffNotes fourth edition was made to prepare you for the new revised AP Exam I contacted them myself and they told me that the fourth edition correlates to new AP Bio Exams including the 2014 May Exam. They don’t make yearly editions, they only make new editions when the AP Exam changes its format. The same goes for Barron’s.

for the actual AP exam, when do you recommend I start studying for it? I mean I have the SAT in December and I’ll be trapped in that until then. Should I just memorize everything in Barrons/Cliffsnotes or try to cram the massive 1200 pg Campbell book in my head?

Out of curiosity, what chapters are you guys in? My class just started Ch.18 (Gene expression) but I feel like my teacher is behind what he’s supposed to.

We are on Chapter 25 but our class only runs 3/4 of the year (ends in mid-April) so we should be ahead of those who have the class all year.

Does your AP Bio teacher let you take home your tests to study from? Ours does not and claims that no AP Bio teachers do.

Ours doesn’t.

I took the exam last year and got a 3. I’ve been thinking about taking it again because I still have the PR 2013 review book from last year I just don’t know if I’ll get a better score if I start studying now. Any suggestions?

What chapters do you guys recommend independently reading in Campbell Biology in case the class doesn’t finish in time? We’ve already read 1-21.

I took the practice test that college board gives for AP Bio and got a 57/63 on the multiple choice. I did the grid ins and knew how to do all except 1, and I felt like knew all the essay questions. This would be a 5 right? Also, anyone know the approximate amount of questions you need to answer or percent correct you need to get in order to attain a 5?

@throws I recommend independently reading the plants and animals chapters because those take time to memorize (in my opinion) Also, don’t forget about the evolution and ecology chapters but those subjects aren’t too hard.
@DJFlash Yes that would be a 5, and use this site to calculate what you need to get a 5.
<a href=“AP Test Score Calculators - AP Pass”>http://appass.com/calculators/home/

Unfortunately, appass only has the 2008 curve, not for the newly designed test. Has Collegeboard released the 2013 curve or does anybody know the cutoff for a 5? I’m sorta worried about bombing the FRQs and getting a low score, especially since only 5% got a 5 least year.

Apparently on tests before the 2013 one, the cutoff has usually been around a 65% for a five, which seems relatively easy to obtain. But, I’m not sure how only 5% were able to get a 5 for the 2013 test. Maybe they raised it to around 73-75%??

Ok, I got the data from looking at a previous thread. Apparently, you would have to get 78 out of the 99 points…

That seems pretty vicious

Oh dude, that’s definitely vicious, I’m sorta scared now actually. Hopefully I’ll get my FRQs in order by then

That’s great… because I was kinda relying on my mc score to make up for my crappy frq score

Anyone have a topic outline for AP Bio or would be kind enough to write one out for me?(:

Anyone know what chapters are being covered in the 9th edition of campbell for the AP test? My teacher is literally skipping all over the place on chapters and covers only certain sections for some. I feel uneasy about that.
