**OFFICIAL** AP Chemistry 2013 Thread

Oops. Just noticed a typo in my last post. ******and

Oh well. :o

Niquii77, definitely better than questions from a textbook. I’m pretty sure I took 5 practice tests (2 in PR and 3 legit ones) and pretty much exhausted the majority of released FRQs. But then again, my class was pretty behind/easy for most of the year, so I kind of needed to.

Yah, I think I jumped in to AP Chemistry without thinking. It was an add-on in my schedule. I will not be taking the test. Any one else in the same boat? And it is the hardest AP in the school, and our school is the hardest public school in the state. And I realized I’m actually really terrible at Chemistry. Which puts me in a huge predicament.

Just had the stoich test. I hate stoich. :(

Which review book should I buy for the AP Exam? Is Princeton Review the general consensus on here?

TWO MORE DAYS OF THE CLASS!!! Worst class of high school ever.

ive been using the pton review book for a while now but i feel like its not very good because some of their questions at the end of the section aren’t covered by the material in the actual section. i don’t understand how i am supposed to answer the question when the section provides the minimum information.

where is everyone on terms of material? my class is on colligative properties? Thanks.

Just took the midterm on Tuesday - we’re up to rate of reaction

I have my midterm tomorrow. So nervous!

Is there anyone else who is self-studying with Barron’s AP Chemistry, or any book for that matter? I go to a semesetered school so most of the students at my school begin studying at the start of second semester, which is pretty much now, in February. I really want to get a 5 if not 4, and was looking for someone like me so we can assist each other. A little background is that I was the top student at school last year and I am taking grade 12 chemistry (the only chem course offered) as I self-study AP.

There are 16 chapters in Barron’s and I had set one per week as a general rule of thumbs, and maybe a couple depending on the dates (break, long-weekend, time off, etc). How am I doing?

I think you’re doing great. Not many people start studying for AP until like couple weeks before. And you’re using Barron’s, which I heard is MORE than you need, so it will definitely prepare you if you understand most of the concepts/questions in the prep book. If you keep it up, you’ll do fine.

I think PR is the best one out there.

I remember I was planning to take the AP exam for Chemistry at the beginning of August, but by the end of August I was just trying to keep a B in the class.

My teacher cannot teach us anything to save her life! Half the people last year failed the test, and the other half got threes LOL! But she says I’m the best student she’s ever had, and I’m pretty sure I can get a 5 this year! (consistently acing all her tests) Chemistry is my good subject

PR seems too simple for my taste. I’m supplementing my (slightly crappy quality in content) textbook with the Atkins book, as well as Barron’s and 5 Steps to a 5. Khan Academy videos and the Chemmybear website help, too.

Wow never seen this thread before. Just catch up, we are currently starting kinetics and I got a 95% in the class 1st semester. Currently I’m slacking. Anyways nice to see a thread for this :)

I got some Barron’s flash cards…
My school doesn’t offer AP but I think we’re similar enough that I won’t have to self study too much. Right now we just finished up a unit on heat and calorimetry.

I am really unsatisfied with all the AP Chem review books. None of them feel “right” I guess. So to make up for that deficit, I plan on using Princeton Review and Five Steps to a Five as my outline of what to know. I will supplement that with Barrons (only going over what is in those two books). I plan on doing Princeton Review practice questions. And Barrons within-text exercises. Any other ideas?

Edit: How do you guys feel about this Pdf (Petersons)? http://www.aeturnalus.com/upload/prep/AP/master_ap_chemistry.pdf

I just don’t understand how people do good in this class, lol.
I regret taking this so much, and I can’t drop out because it would look bad on my transcript.

My class grade is daily homework, labs, and tests. That’s it. Homework is 10 points each and based on completion. Labs are usually out of 50 points, tests get put in out of 100 (but are actually less; for example, the test that I took yesterday was out of 57. Multiple choice were worth 2 or 4 points off your final grade, and short answers were about 18 points off… there were 4). I got a 91 for first semester, and I’d reason that for this quarter I currently have around a 95.

Like nerdlyfe said, I don’t like any of the review books that I’ve come across. I have PR’s, I’ve glanced through 5 Steps to a 5, as well as Peterson’s, and … I don’t know … I just don’t like them.

We just started Chapter 16- Acids & Bases Equilibria; however, apparently we’re behind due to the freak northeast storm, snow days, etc…
