so guys, when we draw molecules we have to draw certain molecules bigger than others, correct?

yeah, the anions larger than the cations. and oh, thanks for reminding me, we have to be able to draw/interpret particulate diagrams (molecules and the like).

Does anyone know how I can get the practice 2014 exam? My teacher didn’t know how to get it and I am nervous about what the questions will be like.

I am one of 6 people writing the AP Chemistry exam at my school!

Yes, you are expected to be able to draw and interpret diagrams of molecular motion and reactions (there was 5 or so questions with pictures of molecules and part of an FRQ was about drawing a dissolved solution of NaCl).

Also, what are the things that we are expected to memorize? Like do we need to know solubility rules and all of the polyatomic ions? I took ap bio last year and I remember how it moved away from memorization and more on using logic.

@Viiolet I believe (don’t quote me on this) the only solubility rule we are expected to know cold is: All sodium, potassium, ammonium, and nitrate salts are soluble in water.

I’ve seen questions where they say two species are mixed and a precipitate is formed, all you do is use the above rule to determine which is soluble and the other one is the precipitate.

Additionally, I believe we are expected to know all the polyatomic ions. If there is something that is not common they typically give us the formula.

Also, if anyone has any questions or anything they need help with for AP Chem, feel free to PM me! It’ll help me prepare too! :P

and btw why did the ap bio curve become so f’d up after they changed the test format? Can we expect the same consequences on this years ap chem test?

@mathpop Know one really knows about the curve this year - we’re all praying it doesn’t!

the ap chem test is on monday and Im just sitting here masturbating

How much mass spectroscopy do we need to know and does anyone have a resource for it ?

@klokt152 <a href=“AP Chemistry PES Webcast - March 2014”>http://media.collegeboard.com/digitalServices/swf/ap-webcasts/chemistry/ap_chem_pes.html

there was like 1 mass spectro. question on my chem final, shouldn’t have to worry about it

I have 20 people… I’m one of two sophomores…My teacher taught the old curriculum sort of Can someone help me?

When do you use the 8.314 J/mol-K value of R? Like in which of the formulas that contain R?

Any time you are looking for delta G. You want those joules.

If you want delta G in kJ, you need to change R to .00831

@PoisonIvy20 That’s mainly for certain thermodynamics problems (as indicated by the Joules and Kelvin).

@MasterMaestro I sent you a PM if you need any help. :)

I too am pretty scared about this new exam, and have many concerns?:
1. Superscientist? what is this practice test you are talking about that is similar to the new exam?
2. My teacher said there will be no ligands, nuclear chem, or organic chem… is this consistent with what you’re hearing?
3. Do we need to know the colors of ions and precipitates?
4. This year’s exam emphasizes lab experiments, we haven’t done many experiments over the year, and I was wondering if anyone has some links about the experiments that could possibly be on the exam?

oh and what are the experiments: there are 16 on the collegeboard website but you need a password to access the pdf
