Official AP Euro '11 Thread

Just think about it. You guess on say 20 questions assuming all wrong.

On the old scale, you’d drop 5 points. Hypothetically, you would get back 4 now, so 9 point difference. So one might think that’s significant, but factor those in who guess and don’t leave any blank, etc. Basically, in tue long scheme of things, the curve probably won’t deviate more than 5 points. Just think about it rationally and it makes sense. So 119’ish does seem right.

I’m thinking it’s going to change quite a bit more than just 5 points. At least 10 I would assume.

My teacher told us that they determine the curve before the exam, but I don’t believe her for a second.

that’s because they don’t o.o
[AP: The Score-Setting Process](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>About AP Scores – AP Students | College Board)
according to this, they grade it after they’ve read the dbqs and frqs.

I don’t know why, but I feel like my DBQ skills haven’t improved much since the beginning of the year. I just wrote about all of the documents as best as I could, trying to incorporate all of the core points. I can’t tell for sure, though, if I got in more than 3 POVs. If one is messed up, ugggh, that’s it for me!

Can anyone help me on this thread, if it’s not too much to ask?

Is it bad that I only wrote two body paragraphs for #2, with a sizable conclusion to tie the two together?(that was romanticism v. enlightenment)

It depends on what score you were aiming for. Were you aiming for a 5?

^I think there’s one of mine that I only wrote 2 body paragraphs for also. I’m hoping for a 4 and thought that was possible. A 5 would be nice, and slightly possible, but I’m not very confident that I got a 5. Probably a 4…

I’ve been trying to guess at how many MC and FRQ points I got on each AP test and guess at my score. It’s been driving me nuts…53 days til July 1st to call and get scores!

I do the exact same thing iluvpiano.

Well it depends on the content really.
Sometimes two body paragraphs is the best structure…

I think it’s almost entirely up to the reader. It depends less on number of paragraphs than it does on number of references, accuracy of references, strength of thesis, coherence of essay, etc. As long as you get a solid mark for “organization of essay,” you’re fine.

Im really scared about the FRQ’s!!!
The MC’s and the DBQ were pretty casual but i don’t think my FRQs were detailed enough (i only had two bps and basic intros and conclusions) !!!
I Did topic 4 and 6 and my Number 6 was pretty good (communisim in one nation and collectivization and Five year plans) but for 4 (bankruptcy and legislative power struggle) i accidently put louis the 17th instead of louis the 16th. (I know I’m kicking myself on that one) I will be praying for a 5 until July :)

I found it really hard to incorporate very many POVs into the DBQ. I THINK I got at least three, but I can’t completely remember…

I think I got this exam down pat! I hope i got at least a 4. I took world last year and got a 3 and i have the same teacher so hopefully i do well.

I took this on the same day as APUSH. APUSH made euro seem like a breeze.

On APUSH frq i used tons of rhetoric and smart sounding words to make up for my lack of outside info…

but for APeuro, i had horrible essay structure but i had tons and tons of information written down. I did the analyze the causes of the french revolution and english civil war as well as the stalin/lenin thing.

but i wasn’t sure on what louis number it was who was married to marie antoineette so i just called him louis xD

^ Louis the 16th. And I hope your strategy of rhetoric and smart-sounding words works :P

Intros and conclusions don’t really matter do they?

They do, if you want a point for the thesis and a chance at expanded core points. If you don’t have a thesis (usually the intro, but you can do a thesis in the conclusion as well).

At most, without an intro or conclusion, and thus thesis, your looking at a 5 on your essay max.

Well, I mean I had them, but assuming you had a short intro with a few introductory sentences and the thesis, and then a short conclusion, you wouldn’t get points off for that would you?

I don’t think they are that important.

Wait - you had an introductory section and a thesis? Wouldn’t it be simpler to combine them into one? Please correct me if I don’t understand.

The ideal thesis lays out the 3 (or more!) groups and has a good number of proper nouns that pertain to the question.
