As I am relatively new to this site, I was looking around, and exploring. It took me little time to notice all these " Official AP ____________" threads. However, I haven’t seen one for AP Euro, so i decided “why not” and establish this thread. Feel free to discuss anything ( tips for upcoming classes, and the sort)

OH, btw, I’m taking this class as a sophomore, and am already beginning the class to my school for a summer bridge program. If you have any helpful links, please feel free to share (:

I also used Sparknote’s AP Euro diagnostic test.

I really like how Sparknotes breaks it all down for you. It tells you what centuries you need to work on and what themes you need to review - e.g. social history, intellectual history, or political history.

REA Crash Course - if you have the background info…GOOD for cramming! 3) Modern European History - straight to the point and is considered one of the best resources for self-studying. Still can be a bit dry, though :/

AP European History: Princeton Review (Awesome), Crash Course (Incredible). Princeton + CC = 5, though.

I’m taking this course next year as a junior, and I’m going to be in a class with a bunch of seniors. I’m SOOO excited. I’m taking it as an elective course and I’m so psyched. I was just wondering, for anyone who has taken it, do we have to know super detailed info (like AP US history), or mainly just the major “themes” (like AP World History)?

I took Euro this year as a senior. I had a very, very tough teacher, but yet great because he knew just about everything. I didn’t really use a prep book- started to read one but ran out of time. I just ended up studying my textbook notes. If you can get a hold of this textbook, I think it’s really good:

Coffin, Judith G., and Robert C. Stacey. Western Civilizations: Their History & Their Culture. New York: W. W. Norton &, 2005. Print.

My teacher said it’s a really good one that many colleges still use for a general/intro European History course and it’s been that way for a long time, just new editions.

I just finished taking Euro as a sophomore, and it was an AMAZING class. I loved it! It was my first AP, but it was so, so interesting and fascinating. Sure, it was definitely tough, but nothing too bad.
For a 5 on the AP Test, you basically will need:
REA Crash Course
Princeton
Modern European History
With those three in your hands, you will pretty much get a 5! :)

Princeton Review is fine with 2011 edition, heck, even the 2010 edition will do you fine.

Good luck to all of you in this course, I am proud to say this has been my favorite AP course thus far (mainly because I love history), and the material in this class was great.

PR + Crash Course = 5 You can substiture one (or add to them) Modern Euro History, which is basically a lot more in-depth, but great for essays!

I’m taking this as a senior next year and I’m so psyched! The one thing I’m dreading is Medieval history; I’m pretty sure it’s not on the AP much but apparently my teacher loves the period so idk how much time we’re going to spend on it- I hope we move past it fairly quickly b/c I’m really into social studies (potential IR major) but my love for history basically starts around the Enlightenment.

I hated AP Euro and I got a 4 this year. With this test and this CC fail score, I realized that you truly need passion in order to succeed in a subject. I was devoid of inspiration to study Euro, as it was, in my opinion the boringest subject ever.

My advice: Stay strong through the tough late night readings and actually have a liking for the subject!

Okay, kind of bumping this so that there won’t be multiple threads like this. Anyway, I’m hopefully going to be able to self-study AP European History this year (I’m PSYCHED! I love European History, whereas my school only offers APUSH, although I’m taking that course).

I love having these threads and it can hopefully keep me on track with my self-study by seeing where those that take the class are in history. I’m going to check out MEH and CC and hopefully buy them.

I’m taking this class as a sophomore, and I’m really excited. I’ve heard that the class at our school is pretty difficult, and I think that three students had A’s in it for the year. It kind of adds to the excitement for me, because it makes it seem more of a challenge. This thread will probably get more interesting/relevant/useful when school does start back.

When do you guys start back to school? My first day is 8th August.

Hey so I also took ap euro as a sophomore and just got my score report and got a 5, and I don’t think the course is as difficult as people say. If you have a great teacher like I did then you will be fine, but if your teacher is like mine your going to have to actually put in time outside the classroom. Like my teacher told us what to read and when it was due and if you read like I did you should have no problem and he gave us like lectures on the things we read which was a great supplement, you couldn’t use it alone as some people didn’t read and just listened and didn’t do that well. Also he gave us this website he didn’t make but a history teacher in my state did called Historyteacher.net and if you go done the left slide and click on powerpoint palooza it has great powerpoints for a ap us and ap euro which coincide with most textbook chapters. So I don’t think you have to buy and supplement readings if you just take good textbook notes, go on historyteacher.net and have a great teacher. Good luck to everyone and I start school in like the first two weeks of September.
