***Official AP Human Geography Thread 2014-2015***

@LosingCrayon I put colonization as well. As for land prices I put that because the prices for land were increasing so much, most families couldn’t afford to live in that country and emigrated out.

For the modern uses of English, I put down that it is used on the internet and it is used in business.

I put colonialism/colonization for the historical factor.

For that modern spread of English I put popular culture as well as the Internet. In explaining popular culture I just talked about the spread of lyrics through songs through the Internet as well as the artists going on tour, selling CDs etc. Since using the Internet was already one of my points, will this count as being the same point?

@mercury123 I think it will count as two  Even though you mentioned the Internet, it was still pop culture.

what did you guys put as the political implications of gerrymandering other than the minority voice having control over the majority?

@LosingCrayon Thanks for answering my question!

@ccstudent101 I also said that since the government redistricts every time there’s a census, states with large in-migration or migration will either get more representation in the government or less representation depending on the demographics. Hence, a state can get more powerful or less powerful.

Were there any other potential answers?

@mercury123 not sure if this goes with what ccstudent101 said, but I put that it can cause an unpopular candidate to be elected and cause political strife in the country

^that’s what i put

I thought I got 50-55 right on the MC test, it wasn’t too hard, but some of the questions I thought were rather obscure. I totally butchered the gerrymandering prompt, but it sounds like I’ll be able to salvage a point or two based on your guys responses. The English one was really straightforward and simple, I only kind of struggled on my 2nd globalization effect. I said transnatonal companies and increased migration to the us and different ethnicities would have to learn English to work, especially at a high level like at silicon valley. Do you think this will work? also, for the refugee one, I said that, economically, refugees would drain resources and funds from the government For my 2nd one, I said they could add to the agricultural or industrial work force or even add specialized labor. I’m not sure about that Last one, as this isnt really the class i studied cery hard For. What do you guys think? :stuck_out_tongue:

To @falconsroach7:
I said transnational companies too, and I think that that example would work well.
The refugee one: Usually the AP Human readers won’t let your answers contradict each other. Adding numbers to a workforce would be helpful to a nation’s economy; not be detrimental, which was your first response.
You probably did well, the FRQs usually average 1-3 points per question. If anything, you probably got at least 4/6 on all of them (I’m guessing) after looking at your descriptions.
For the gerrymandering one, I put that there will be all of one political party in that specific district, and all of the other districts would be different parties, would that count?

To @pianoswim I put the same thing for the political party thing because all though that is basically the definition of. Gerrymandering, the question was asking for a consequence of redistricting not gerrymandering. Also, ap readers might not let you contradict yourself, but the way I see it, those two refugee arguments don’t contradict them because the govt would still have to help the refugees even if they get jobs.

Guys I’m really worried about my ap exam score, if I get a 45/75 on multiple choice and at least an 86 percent on frqs is that going to be a four or five?

yeah, that is true that the gov. will still help the refugees.
For your score: just use a score calculator: you got a 5.

I don’t know how accurate a score calculator will be, because the FRQs were very easy and thus, the percentage for a 5 will be higher.

But @TP2000 can I get a four with that score though?

@Lebronjamesisbad

Definitely.

What book helped the most for the ap exam? I used the barrons book but it didn’t help much.

Was any of the other books better for this test?

@potterworld Barron’s helped me the most. For the economic implications of immigrating refugees, I put that for countries in stages 2 or 3 of Rostows economic transition model, the added workforce will benefit the economy as they help the commercial and agricultural base exapand, thus enabling takeoff. My other resulting effect contracts with the first, as did @Falconsroach7 response, however I mentioned that the net positive influx of immigrants will only be detrimental to countries in stages 4 or 5 of the economic transition model, or core countries according to Wallersteins World Systems theory. Do you think I will get full credit?

@pianoswim I see where you’re coming from, but I didn’t necessarily view mine as contradictory. Since the prompt only said economic impacts, I discussed one positive and one negative. I said the refugees could offer nothing, drain money, food and energy and end up with the development of squatter settlements or I said they could add to the agricultural and industrial base or even bring some specialized labor and education. Really depends on how my grader sees it though, as i still see where you’re coming from
