Honestly you guys probably don’t need review books. I took it in May and it was really easy. If you took the APUS exam in comparison the AP Gov and Politics is much easier. I got a 4 on the US history and a 5 on the Gov and Politics. I didn’t prep/study for either to give you an idea of how easy AP Gov test is. Also don’t be one of those people who finishes the writing in like 30 min. Use all or at least most of the time getting everything you know down. They do give you an abundance of time for the FRQ’s though. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

For those claiming that Gov is a copycat of APUSH: just give it some time. I’m taking it myself this year, and we started out the same way; running through the Declaration of Independence and Constitutional Convention. You’ll move on to learning about federalism, political culture, public opinion, and the three branches soon enough.

Er… actually, by now, you’ve probably figured that out. I’ll leave this here for future generations of CC’ers, though, I suppose.

Is it ok to use ONLY a prep book (PR)? I plan on starting to study this month (December)… Do I need a textbook or some other prep books?

Is your class a semester or a full year?

My School only offers APUSH as the AP History Class. I am taking it now.

I would like to self study for United States Government and Politics.

My question is should I take an online class in the Spring and try to finish with APUSH
or wait until the summer?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

mine is a full year

im going to buy crash course soon.

My class is not getting anywhere. teacher isnt so good at it. (shes a lawyer)…

I need something to save me.

i’m taking the full year class, and i don’t really think a book is going to be necessary, just a little broad review beforehand! to be honest, i’ve maintained a 96 in this class with a really good teacher, and i think my understanding so far proves i can handle the exam without a book

Thanks hop

I am not familiar with crash course. Is it. Book?

I haven’t bought a review book…yet. Does anyone know anything about Baron’s?

ya barrons is pretty good from what i’ve heard… anyone have links to free practice quizzes/tests?

Pretty scared for this exam. Just finished the half-year course and I feel like my teacher hasn’t instructed me properly. Is one semester of instruction sufficient for this class? (obviously I will continue studying on my own)

@DaneBrick. Same here. This is the first year that we have AP at our school and we only have one semester to learn everything. I’m doing well in the class, but I don’t know if I can do well on the actual exam. What do I need to do to be ready for the exam in May?

I’m considering 5 Steps to a 5, but I would still like some more opinions from anyone who has used it. (:

Taking a full year of this, don’t really need a book but I’m getting Barrons anyways. Just to play it safe, be sure I get a 5.

Before all these like 15 snow days we have loads of time to do nothing and watch like the West Wing or talk about current events…now he is worried about time so no more slacking :c.

Full year is too much for govt.

I just bought Princeton Review’s USGP. I am listening to USGP(a year length) in school, but I think we won’t be able to cover all the topics needed for the AP exam
Moreover, our USGP teacher said that our text book would be inappropriate for preparing USGP since the text book only represents the Elitist view. He told the students preparing for USGP exam to read ‘Government in America’ instead.

The problem is, I think I won’t have enough time to read ALL pages of the book. so, I think I would read the content review of Princeton Review instead. Will that be a problem?

i think youll be fine

I just finished my Cracking AP Gov (PR) yesterday. I am looking to take a practice test on the weekend. I have another book, its a Barron’s 2 edition old which is still good I will use to study simultaneously. After I finish the test, I will see where I make the most errors, then read those portions out of Barron’s and my government textbook (American Government 10th Edition).
I really want a 5 on the exam but am not to sure because government is not my strongest subject.
To anyone wondering, PR is very short read 100-120 pages. It is very brief. I think that it could not be enough to get a 5. So using Barron’s as a supplement is a good idea since Barron’s is in-depth.
Good Luck, I might report back my score on the PR practice test 1.
