How bad will my dbq score be if I only used 3-4 of the documents? My overall essay was solid.

You don’t have to use all the documents provided. Did you use outside information?

@elvisthepup Yes, if outside information is my background knowledge of the subject, I used a lot of outside info.

do you guys think the curve would be bad this year?

For the DBQ, I said that the U.S. became more involved in world affairs and some people supported this and some people opposed this. Do you think that was enough or did we have to mention all the phases the U.S. went through over that time period?

How many paragraphs was it and what did each paragraph bring to the table?

BP1: U.S. became involved in foreign affairs directly
BP2: U.S. became involved in foreign affairs indirectly (all outside info)
3: many Americans saw it as their duty to protect countries from totalitarian regimes
4: many Americans were opposed to foreign intervention

@aberlasters I’m not completely sure that answered the question directly.

In general, it is good to use the half + 1 method for documents.

I did a change over time! America started isolationist, then later voiced its opinions to countries but didn’t enforce these ideas through military action, and eventually decided to take action in foreign affairs. That wasn’t my exact thesis.

I also used all of the documents and wrote 4 pages. Kicking myself for not including the Marshall Plan in my second paragraph. I also included terms like “no entangling alliances” and “city upon a hill”… hopefully I did well!! What did people talk about for the FRQ?

The FRQ 2 - John Locke, Rousseau, the Old Lights and New Lights — this one I am not expecting much on.
The FRQ 4 - Compromise 1877, Plessy v. Ferguson, 13-15 amendments, KKK, Jim Crow

how bad is it if i accidentally included shakers in my puritan essay?

The MC was good. I had time to go back and count all the answers i narrowed to two and that means the most I can get wrong is 25. I think I got at least half of those 25 right though so that’s good. If I did my DBQ and FRQs correctly then I’m pretty sure I got a solid 5.

Does anyone know how the DBQ is graded? I used like 4 or 5 of the 10 Documents and 70% of the essay was just outside information. I basically did a thing where I showed how the attitude developed over the years for each of my groupings.

How are the FRQs graded? I did 2 and 4 as well. I included a lot of information to prove my point but idk?

DBQ:

1: Intro
2: B1: Isolationism after WW1
3: B2: Why Isolationism happened
4: B3: Continued isolationism through 20’s/30’s and why
5: B4: Isolationist->Interventionist in/around WW2 and why
6: B5: Interventionist and why after WW2->Korean
7: Conclusion: Isolation->Intervention

FRQ2: Will I get points off if I incorporated Puritanism, Enlightenment, and 1st Great Awakening?

1: Intro
2: B1: Puritanism in 1620->declining and The Enlightenment in America
3: B2: Causes of Great Awakening (tying in B1)
4: B3: Effects of Great Awakening
5: Conclusion: How the effects of the Great Awakening helped form the American identity and why it contributed to the American revolution

FRQ4: Will I get points off because I didn’t define the goals of reconstruction? One can easily draw them from the writing, though.

Intro

B1: Some success brought about by reconstruction

B2: Why reconstruction ended and how that affected the goals of reconstruction
4: Conclusion: Why the goals of reconstruction were achieved to only a very small extent by 1900.

8 to 9: Well-developed, focused thesis; in-depth, effective analysis using a substantial number of documents (if applicable); numerous references to outside information; analysis of complexity of issue, acknowledgement of opposing viewpoints; may contain minor errors, but overall well-written and clearly organized. LOL IS ANYONE GOING TO GET A 9?

5 to 7: Consistent thesis; analysis of several documents (if applicable); reference to most documents and to relevant outside information; acceptable organization; clearly written, logical but with flaws.

2 to 4: Limited or undeveloped thesis; describes documents but only achieves superficial treatment of the subject (if applicable); merely paraphrases or briefly cites documents; contains errors; may have major errors and be poorly organized and/or written.

0 to 1: Confused thesis or no thesis at all; inadequate or incorrect understanding of question; little understanding of documents (if applicable); ignores most documents; outside information sparse and often inaccurate; contains major errors; weak writing.

you people are magic.

@ MattCar

I did 2 and 4 too!
2: John Locke and House of Burgesses and how it led to Articles of Confederation, Constitution, Bill of Rights etc… mostly about self-government and rights
Puritanism and work ethic and morality
I kind of pulled random facts together

4:
1st P-KKK, Black codes, grandfather clause, literacy tests under voting
2nd P- Assassination of Lincoln and Andrew Johnson as president and how the South got what they wanted so the Reconstruction goals were not achieved by 1900
3rd P - education/ work opportunity with sharecropping and lack of education, separate but equal, no equal opportunity, etc.

I think my 4 was better than my second… I kind of just spoke about random stuff without concrete facts or dates. No idea about my DBQ as I really did not bring in much outside information.

@Jellybae the DBQ’s are typically graded with the half+1 scale, so if there are 10 documents you should have used at least 6.

@elvisthepup no you will not get points taken off for talking about Puritanism, no extra credit either. However, if you spent time talking on that when you could have used more evidence for the other two then it could hurt you.

Also, you probably should have defined the goals of Reconstruction. The AP graders will NEVER give you the benefit of the doubt. As my teacher said, “pretend like the AP graders are idiots and define EVERYTHING for them.”

@MattCar oh If my essay is great overall will that get me an 8? Or will I lose 2 points and get a 7?
