[] Counselor Rec: Super fabulous although I also waived my rights
[] Supplemental Rec(s), if any?: Yup. Debate coordinator.
[] Hook(s) (if any): REALLY into politics. I attended the DNC, worked with the editors of Time magazine to create a new one, also interned at marie claire, cosmo. Worked until November 4th for the Obama Campaign. My family also has a HUGE history in politics and I know that really helped. I'm also a mega minority
[] Interview?: Yup. With the International Dean. It lasted 2 hours so I think that went well..

[] Financial Aid?(Y/N): N
[] Legacy Yes/No: N
[] Country, Region, or State: Paris, France
[li] School Type: Private
[/li]

[/ul]Any Other Factors (strengths, weaknesses, all that.): My school is really well-known with colleges and I think we have a really really good connection with BC. so Probably that. I also do a lot of photography and sent in a portfolio. But the main strength was def. politics and my involvement. Weakness would have to be the fact that Freshman and Sophomore year I had TERRIBLE grades and was almost kicked out of school.

*Comments/Congratulations...: Ah.. Senioritis has set in. I can't wait! *

[] AP/IB courses and/or scores:
[] Unweighted GPA: 3.81
[] Weighted GPA: 4.1
[] Rank or Equivalent: 9/165
[li] Intended Major: English
[/li]

[/ul]****[ul]
[] Quality of Essays: I don't know, but this has to be what hooked them. The thing is that my common app essay was so long, as in, 1200 words long. I didn't have anyone help me, but it was about how my outlook on success has changed, and how I have changed, since Freshman year.
[] Teacher Recs: I waived the right, but they showed me them anyways. My Spanish teacher wrote about how quickly I pick up Spanish and extracurricular leadership. My English AP teacher talked about my writing skills, curiousity, and potential. They were both complimentary.
[] Counselor Rec: I didn't see it.
[] Supplemental Rec(s), if any?: None
[] Hook(s) (if any): Nothing really. I'm just a plain old caucasian girl from the Midwest, although I am first generation.
[] Interview?: Nope
[] Most Valuable ECs:
National Honor Society Pres
Drama
Choir- Sop. Section Leader
Speech and Debate
Literary Magazine
Community Service Group
[] Dancer?: Nope

[/ul]Who and Where?[ul]
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Financial Aid?(Y/N): Yes
[] Legacy Yes/No: No
[] Country, Region, or State: Midwest
[li] School Type: Public (we're not great or anything)
[/li]

[/ul]Any Other Factors (strengths, weaknesses, all that.): I just want to make myself an example here. If you want to go to a great school like Barnard, don't psych yourself out just because your SAT scores may not be "amazing" (compared to CC members, my SATs are paltry) or you may not have a perfect record or are the president of every club. If that school is the perfect fit for you, go for it, and the school will see that which is what I think they did with me. You will never know if you do not try.

Comments/Congratulations...: Congrats, ladies! I am super excited for next year and I am thrilled to have this opportunity!!

I usually dislikes these, but I realize that it's helpful for people who are thinking of applying in the future. I know I looked at these a lot before applying to Barnard, assessing chances and whatnot. (Rationalization.) Anyway, here goes!

Decision: Accepted

Stats:

[li]SAT: N/A
[/li]

[] Reading: 32
[] Science: 34
[] English/Writing Combined: 30
[li] Essay: 9
[/li]

[] AP/IB courses and/or scores: 4 Bio, 4 Music Theory, 5 U.S. History
[] Unweighted GPA: 3.76
[] Weighted GPA: 3.95
[] Rank or Equivalent: Top 10%
[li] Intended Major: No idea.
[/li]

[/ul]****[ul]
[] Quality of Essays: Decent, I suppose. A "creative writing" piece on photography.
[] Teacher Recs: 4th year Spanish teacher and math teacher (even though I wasn't close to the greatest student in her class, which I think made the letter much more human) from Junior year. They were both very sweet letters.
[] Counselor Rec: She was new at my school this year. I didn't read it, but she said she put a lot of thought and heart into it.
[] Supplemental Rec(s), if any?: From my Freshman English teacher who I am close with.

[] Hook(s) (if any): Not that I can think of/tried to milk.
[] Interview?: On-campus by admissions officer in charge of my region. She was incredibly nice. We talked about some of the things I'm involved in at school (clubs), outside of school (piano and tutoring), and I went on a long rant about how much I love my U.S. History teacher and enjoyed his class.
[] Most Valuable ECs: President of Young Democrats Club, Amnesty International Club, and Gay-Straight Alliance at school. VP of Cinema Club, lots of extra classes over summer and at local community college, etc.
[] Dancer?: ...Not so much.

[/ul]Who and Where?[ul]
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Financial Aid?(Y/N): Applied, but didn't get any money.
[] Legacy Yes/No: No.
[] Country, Region, or State: Southern CA
[li] School Type: Relatively competitive public
[/li]

[/ul]Any Other Factors (strengths, weaknesses, all that.): One strength was probably that in my Barnard supplement, I expressed exactly why I want to go to Barnard and how the school fits me perfectly. One weakness was probably my grades...
