**Decision: Accepted **

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): CR: 680 M: 760 W: 760
[] ACT: 33
[] SAT II: N/A
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.28 (My school only does weighted GPA, and the highest I believe is an 4.8?)
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 23 out of 266
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): 4 on AP Lang and Comp, but I didn’t report that score to Barnard
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Calculus AB, AP Physics C, AP Literature and Composition, AP Japanese, AP Art History, Wind Symphony III
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Commended Student, National Honor Society, Japanese National Honor Society, Tri-M Music National Honor Society, Varsity Letter of the Arts in Marching Band and All-School Musical

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Marching Band (Field Captain, Low Brass Section Leader 12) for 4 years, Stage Manager for All-School Musical (Head Stage Manager 11, 12) for 4 years, Japanese Club (Officer 9, 10, 11 /President 12) for 4 years, Yearbook (Editor-in-Chief 11, 12) for 4 years, Gay-Straight Alliance (PR 9, 10, 11, 12) for 4 years, Jazz Band for 3 years
[] Job/Work Experience: N/A
[] Volunteer/Community service: During the summer I volunteered every day for a few weeks at a summer camp for differently abled children. I absolutely loved it; we would become someone’s best friend for the day and make sure everyone was having fun.
[] Summer Activities: I had taken summer school for the past 3 summers to get myself ahead in school, so I didn’t have time for long summer programs.
[] Essays: I think they really showed the admissions office who I am and what I stand for. It’s clear that I love Barnard for what it is, and definitely not as a “back door to Columbia.”
[] Teacher Recommendation: I had recommendations written by my AP Language & Composition and Elementary Math Analysis Honors teachers from junior year. My AP Lang teacher has known me for 4 years because she’s also the advisor for GSA, and she’s like a mother to me, so I was really confident in her recommendation. As for my second recommendation, I was planning on getting my Wind Symphony director to write my second recommendation, but I was told I should probably provide another core academic teacher’s recommendation. I waived my rights to see the recommendations.
[] Counselor Rec: I’m sure my recommendation was fine, though my guidance counselor and I aren’t very close.
[] Additional Rec: My third recommendation was written by my Wind Symphony director, who’s been incredibly supportive of me since freshman year. He’s the one who encouraged me to switch from flute to euphonium, and it’s one of the best decisions I ever made in high school. He’s also seen me through four years of marching band and stage managing the musical, and knows exactly how much effort I put into the things I love. I’m confident that he wrote me a very good recommendation.
[] Interview: I was pretty nervous and I don’t think it was the best ever, but the interview isn’t designed to hurt applicants, so it only could have helped me.
[] Supplementary Material: N/A

[/ul] Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): NJ
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Taiwanese
[] Gender: Female

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Strong leadership, unique interests, and I’ve definitely shown Barnard how I’ve challenged myself to to better.
[] Weaknesses: Essays (I could’ve worked a little more on them), grades in Science/Math, SAT score in CR
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I really felt like Barnard is the place for me, and the admissions committee saw that in my application.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: None, I pulled my Northeastern application before decisions came out, and I didn’t apply anywhere else.

[/ul]**General Comments: **I feel like I really showed how passionate I am about the things I do, through my activities, my teacher recs, and my essays. Also, there wasn’t a space for this, but I thought I’d mention that my intended major is Art History!
