[] Essays: Very strong. I killed myself over that personal statement. I wrote about introversion and extraversion, and how much writing has helped me develop who I am. I wrote about a fictional TV feminist for the Woman essay, my grandmother for the Why Barnard essay, female empowerment, peech team for Unafraid, etc.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Very good, I think. My Honors Spanish teacher (and Spanish Club advisor), my AP Lang/Comp teacher (and Newspaper advisor), and my AP Art History teacher (and Art club advisor). I picked these teachers because I liked them and their classes a lot (and they like me), and because they know me well both in class and through extracurriculars they advise.
[] Counselor Rec: She’s new this year, but I think she likes me a lot.
[] Additional Rec: N/A… Although I (my gc, actually) did accidentally submit 4 recs instead of 2.
[li] Interview: Went really well. We talked about Mad Men and how we’d both organized screenings of the presidential debates for our respective schools (I interviewed mid-October). She’s a senior at Barnard.
[/li]

[] School Type: Public; I’m the first from my school to ever apply to Barnard.
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Female, obviously.
[] Income Bracket: 100k.
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I sent in several examples of my writing (poetry, short story) and really stressed writing as a passion and ambition throughout my life. As well, I stressed my community involvement and political goals (I’m Senior Class President); I volunteer a lot for local offices and was very active with the election – all things I developed throughout my application and brought up in my interview! Politics and writing.
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[list]
[] Strengths: Essays/writing, ECs, Recommendations, AP classes
[] What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: WRITER! POLITICAL!
[] Weaknesses: GPA, SAT/ACT
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Barnard likes a writer, and a politically motivated and active one at that.
[*] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I’ve only applied to the Univ. of Minnesota Twin Cities, and was accepted. I’d planned to apply to Sarah Lawrence (second choice to Barnard), Vassar, Columbia, Fordham, and Univ. of Edinburgh, as well.
