Well, I am sure Eton will help you get a place in Oxbridge, though I do not think the HADES:HYPSM and ETON:OXBRIDGE are analogous.

Yeah, if you’re a GUY! GAH! :(

is anyone going to actually post their stats?

When we get them…

Well thatt the point of this thread starz. After you’ve been accepted may as well. I never made a thread in the chances forum…once I know I’m accepted I’ll be fine putting everything on here.

I wish this thread were re-started for decisions/stats only - no commentary being posted before/between the stats.

I also think it’s important to have a category for ECs. Maybe not to specifically list which ECs, but maybe a self-rating of the strength of your ECs. Yes it’s objective, but atleast it gives some estimation…

Possible Ratings Sytem:
Outstanding = well-rounded participation with leadership positions and deeply developed passion in one or more areas. Perhaps an unusual EC or a national rating/award.

Above Average = either well-rounded participation, or a deeply developed passion for one EC, with minimal leadership roles. Some recognizable award(s)

Average = participation in a handful of ECs, minor awards/recognition.

Below Average = low-level of participation in 2 or fewer areas of EC. No awards/leadership roles.

None = none

I think stating if you had a leadership role is enough. Most ECs mean nothing if you don’t have a leadership role or its not community service. Anyone can SAY they did something.

No thank you because comon! Look at MY ECs:

IF we post ECs… Well compared to my list you would all be obliterated.

Hahahahaha “looking sexy: outstanding”

When I said rate your ECs, I intended for it to be one overall rating for all ECs, specifically not to list out the individual activities…

Point being, do you think WE can rate ourselves?

That’s the reason I gave a possible definition for each rating. I think the reliability of self-rating of ECs would not be significantly different from self-rating interviews/essays/recommendations or than the self-reporting of grades and Standardized test scores.

Yeah, but then YOU are determining the rank. I doubt you, or me, are in any position to determine ranks. The others are TOTALLY subjective and need to interpretation other than a (usually) numeric value given. Simple.

These are some of the sections in the original post:

[ /list][ b]Subjective:[ /b][ list]
[ *] Essays:
[ *] Teacher Recs:
[ *] Principle/Counselor Rec:

How are we any more qualified to make judgements there, than we are to make a judgment about our EC participation?

Agreed (ten char)

Viola, I actually giggled a little when I read looking sexy. Usually when I say LOL… I don’t actually LOL… go figure >.>

Bump…

Bump…

Haha viola. I must say I did actually LOL at your “Looking sexy: outstanding” list component. :)

Fair enough, Linds, but considering one is in constant interaction with the teachers that write one’s recommendations (although perhaps not the guidance principle) and all too often I know I’m uncomfortably aware of the problems I have with essay-writing. There needs to be a little subjective information, but you must have seen at least a few chances threads where posters take their ECs a little too far.

If I had anticipated the response to my failure to include ECs in the criteria, I might have thought differently, but in the end this thread will hopefully benefit us all but mostly benefit next year’s CC crowd. Doubtlessly they will have encountered the EC inflation on the chances board, and maybe they’ll even appreciate the minimal subjective criteria. I don’t know.

Anyway, I can’t believe everything is going down tomorrow. As an international applicant, I hear from all of my schools tomorrow during school via email, with the exception of Andover for which I have to wait until 10PM my time (GMT)…
