Official Bowdoin College Class of 2010 Decisions Thread

Yay! Mike got in!!! Are you definitely going to attend?

Sara, I got a whole packet about the Bowdoin Open House yesterday.

There is typically a booklet with all the information on the Open Houses in it. I thought it came with the folder with the admissions certificate and stuff, but I could be wrong.

Oh, cool, KSolow, thanks! I will look for that in the mail. insertnamehere, what do you mean by "admissions certificate"? Like, the letter of admission? (Sorry if that's a dumb question :) )

Congratulations to everyone else, by the way! You all seem really nice and I hope I get to meet some of you when I visit (or when I possibly attend!)!

admissions really is a cr*pshoot. i was rejected from colby, bates, williams, waitlisted at uvm, and accepted to bowdoin. i'm finished with college confidential, see you at college!

Rio - I'm a bowdoin student, you can ask me stuff if you'd like. Private Message / IM / whatever - feel free.

Sara, the certificate is this really nice certificate recognizing your admission. I think I might get mine framed. It is beautiful.

Yay accepted. This was the last one I was waiting for, and now it's time for making a decision...
Btw the window decal they sent is super cute.

Thanks. I am trying to get an idea of what you, as a current student, see as Bowdoin's strenghts and weaknesses. What were you expecting and how does that fit with what you have experienced? Are you happy with your choice? What type of student would do well and what type wouldn't?
How is that for starts?

Expecting>> small classes, where I know each professor personally, and they know me.

Finding>> Exactly that.

I'm very happy with my choice.

I think to do well here you have to be a student but also a well rounded person. Someone who just wants to study and turn in perfect papers won't be as successful (I think) as someone who can be friendly and meet a bunch of people here. It's a place where you develop as a person, more than just learning facts and grammar.

I wanted a small college with a lot of interaction between professors and students, and I have really found that.

Hey everybody, thanks! I'm not definite on attending yet, due to financial things, but there is an EXCELLENT chance that I'll be attending.

wow I don't think I can wait another TWO f'in dayss.....

waitlisted... any idea how many people get waitlisted? And also my choices are Davidson, Colgate, Boston College and William and Mary... any thoughts? Thanks and congrats to all of you acceptees!!

Accepted (from north Florida). The personalized letter is classy. Nice bumper sticker (you don't see a lot of polar bears in Florida!). The financial aid package was disappointing, however. Fell WAY short -- offered less than half the grant plus significantly higher loans/expected work contributions compared to several other offers received so far...

Waitlisted, but it was a nice letter. Congratulations to everyone accepted!

Does the acceptance come in a big packet???

Pretty big...

How does the exterior of an acceptance letter differ from that of a rejection one?

I hear from Bowdoin tomorrow....

A rejection letter is tiny(a normal sized envelope) and an acceptance letter is one of those big envelopes. You'll know when you see it before you even open it.

you can see right through the rejection envelope its so thin.

The acceptance "letter" I recieved from Bates was large enough to fit one of their brochures.

if you get a thin envelope, you where either waitlisted or rejected

*Decision: ACCEPTED *

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: i did the common app. but my supplement was a future letter to my roommate. i thought it was the best essay i've EVER written. it was bouncy, off-the-wall kooky. i loved it. it is my favorite essay, and the one that i would actually send to a future roommate.
[] Teacher Recs: should've been good. my teachers loved me.
[] Counselor Rec: good but probably cookie-cutter
[] Hook (if any): ummm...asian? in a minority and plays a sport

[] School Type: public magnet, top in the city
[] Ethnicity: asian, Chinese

[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: My SAT scores and my GPA was probably really weak in comparison with some of the other people but my ACT is much better. I think that my essay was probably one of the greatest pros on my application, more so than anything else.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Probably because I'm from a minority and I play varsity tennis, AND because my essay was just fabulous.
