General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Good luck all; I won't be joining you next year. After paying $30k a year for four years, my parents will be relying solely on the government for the last 35 years of their lives. You know how that dangerous that would be.

Decision: Accepted (my financial aid package is looking pretty sweet)!!!!!!!!!
I don't have time to post my stats because I have to go eat cake right now.

haha. cake. money+cake="let them eat cake!"

Hey, Does anyody know what a Richard H edward scholar means.

Rejected

oy, this is tough.

Luckily, I was accepted to Bates...even though I did not take an interview or campus tour. Ironically enough, my Bowdoin interviewer was a alumni of Bates. I applied to four colleges (all three maines and allegheney), and was rejected by Bowdoin and Colby (I did not like Colby anyways).

I feel kid of apathetic. For two years I just dreamed about receiving that Bowdoin window decal etc. I was expecting it to be much worst...getting rejected by all Maine schools. I thought it was over when I recieved my Bowdoin letter...I didnt notice the big fat Bates envelope untill fifteen minutes later.

Its not that I was rejected from Bowdoin that makes me feel this way, there is many factors, letting down my family and teachers is kind of one of them. They became all "excited" when they heard that I got into Bates, and give me this sort of banal congratulations (even though they probably dont know where or what bates is). I like Bates very much...its just that when my headmaster said "Bates...is a very nice school" he had his eyes shut. That kind of hurt me.

They all seem happy, but I could see right threw that...I wish I couldn't.

The biggest thing that ticks me off is that I was accepted without an interview or official campus tour. Why does this irratate me? I feel that some kid, who put Bates on the top of his list, like how I placed Bowdoin , drove for god only knows how long, to stay over night, meet professors, and have a lenghty interview all while manuevering all this around his own hectic schedual, could have been rejected...and in turn, a complete stranger, like I, was accepted...

I honestly believe, even if its at my own lost, that it should have been the other way around...I mean, what does this say about the school itself?

Anyways, in the end like my headmaster says "there is no ryhme or reason".
I guess I have to just go with the tide now...

You know what I think it was...my essays where written in Arial Narrow, and not Times New Roman font, which I like better anyways. Yea, thats what it is.

Anyways thanks for all the help and support! I sent a email out to my Bowdoin interviewer. He was a graduate of Bates as well. I just wanted to thank him for all his help. He sent back a very nice email as well.

take it easy!
See you in Maine!

hi everyone!

i'm really excited to attend bowdoin next year. i applied ed to williams and got deferred, and then waitlisted, but i decided upon visiting bowdoin i liked it WAY better.

instead of posting my stats i'd just like to ask if there's anyone out there who's into singing/performing? i've been doing that for a long time and i hope to get involved at bowdoin. i'm also planning on a double major in classics [the head of the classics dept, barbara boyd, is the author of the textbook that my ap latin class uses, i thought that was awesome] and some modern language. i'm kind of intrigued by german for some reason.

anyway, feel free to im me [windcriesmary4]. i'd love to talk to anyone attending next yr!

I not interested in singing and performing, but I am really interested in Classics...it is great someone who is too.

awesome. have you done any latin? are there any roman authors you like? i haven't taken any greek yet but i really want to at bowdoin.

I'm in Latin 4 right now. Actually, I just spent a few weeks studying ancient greek. I did the Aeneid last year, and Virgil is probably my favorite author, well poet actually. I really enjoyed Cicero as well.

Hey I just thought I'd drop by say hi. Good to luck to everyone going to Bowdoin next year, its an awesome place so have a blast. It was awesome meeting everyone, feel free to keep in touch, always enjoy meeting new people. And I will be going to University of Rochester next year, so good luck everyone. Au revoir, and bon journee.

btw, random, I took latin too as well as greek mythology. Homer is awesome, the iliad is my all time favorite greek work and virgil is cool too. If you get a chance read some Aristotle, and Socrate's apology which is insane/

DECISION: Accepted RD, and Going (!!!)

Senior Yr Courseload: Um… Full Schedule, because I am a nutter. AP Lit, AP European History, Physics X (a joke), Latin I (online), French I, art classes (and almost AP Studio, but I saw sense at the last minute), and a Computer Science class at the local university. A little weird because I exhausted all the math classes last year…
Number of Apps from Your School: I’m reasonably sure it’s just me. And probably no more than a handful ever, though on that I really have no idea.

Subjective:

ECs listed on app: Er, Marching Band, Philosophy Club, ACLU (school chapter), and I think I might have put down Writing Club, but it was five months ago! I don’t remember. :}
Job/Work Experience: A couple of years teaching kiddies art during the summer and a couple of years teaching kiddies Hebrew during the school year.
Essays (subject and responses): Uh… wow, I honestly have no idea. Again, five months. I think my common app one was about climbing my first 14er, actually?
Teacher Recs: Didn’t read them, but pretty sure they were excellent.
Counselor Rec: Ditto
Interview (feel and general location): At Bowdoin; one of my better ones.
Hook (if any): Female who wants to be an engineer. Which I probably didn’t emphasize enough for it to be a true hook, so really none.
State or Country: CO
School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): City magnet school (art), 900-ish students; and good, but not at all high on most college lists (except for art schools :p).
Ethnicity: White
Income Bracket: Um… no financial aid past the National Merit Pittance.
Gender: Female
Strengths/Weaknesses: I’m a good student, I have really good stats… but I have no interest in burning myself out to fight my way into the top 5% of my class (currently hovering on the edge of 10%, I think). I also don’t have that many ECs, and have very few academic awards because that’s not the kind of thing my school does much of (though I can present useless art awards in profusion :P).
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Um, probably because I’m a good student, if not exactly the five-hundredth valedictorian on their list. (Hah, I suck.) Oh, and also probably because I’m female and want to be some kind of math/science major. And maybe, hopefully, they might have seen through all the forms and stuff to the idea that Bowdoin was exactly the kind of college I was looking for.
Other Factors: ?
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc:
Um, yay! I got in somewhere! And it was among the top of my list! I was too busy moping about being rejected from MIT to be immediately excited, but I’m quite happy now.

And, um, as per normal, I feel really crap in the face of all these people who do crazy awesome amazing stuff and still get 5.2s. Mm.
