Have any UK peeps heard yet?

i got some REALLY newbie questions…
just wondering some questions for the waitlisters to brown.
- how are some typical reasons people that were offered waitlist deny the place on wait list?
- can you do ‘regular applying’ to other school while accepting the waitlist place at brown?
3.If you accept a place on the waitlist and get accepted to other schools in the mean while, are you obligated to go to brown? - deferred = waitlist?

Aha, I’m an international. Guess I’m not heading to RI for the fall. :P

^ same here :(

I don’t think that the fact that they’ve accepted some international means that they’re done accepting all internationals. Hope is not yet lost guys! :P

There’s going to be at least two waves of acceptances, the next wave should be next week or later

just curious, would you choose penn or brown? and what do you want to study?

^ Probably UPenn, it’s for my interests (Pre-Med) the better choice.

really? i would assume brown to be better-- you could take care of your prereqs for pre med, and have freedom in choosing your other courses (not really bound to a major that way). where else did you get in?

how do you know? Does it state that anywhere? :o

Just out of curiosity, if you had the choice and you would pick Penn over Brown anyway, why are you still on the Brown waiting list?

Just wondering, but does anyone know how they would notify accepted students? Through the website? I also hope that they’ll send a final letter to all rejected waitlistees - I’d be too anxious otherwise.

I said “probably” lol

Jppark,

Your question is worded a little awkwardly, do you mean why would someone turn down an acceptance from the waitlist? The big reason I could think of would be inadequate financial aid, which I’m sure happens every year.

I’m assuming you mean “can you commit” to another school while on waitlists. Yes. You can’t “be applying” since the waitlist process occurs after all the application deadlines. You are expected to put a deposit down at one school come may 1st such that you have a spot somewhere should you not get accepted from the waitlist anywhere.

I’m assuming you mean if you’re on the multiple waitlists, and after getting in to Brown, you get into a 2nd school that you would rather attend. You would probably forfeit any deposit Brown had asked for, but you could withdraw and then attend that other school. This happens, and this is why the waitlist activity can extend as far as June or even July.

No. When you apply early, one of three things can happen. You can get in, you can get rejected, or you can get deferred, which means that you will be re-evaluated with the regular decision applicants. Your re-evaluation would result in one of 3 thing, you get in, you get rejected, or you get waitlisted.

thanks iwannabe for clearing some questions i had

Got a letter in the mail from Brown today saying that they won’t be able to take me in their class of 2015. Brown’s been my dream since forever…

I’m waiting too… International
how could you know there’re two waves of acceptances? are you sure about it?

noooooooo, that’s not good :(

i havent received anything yet…still hoping

rejected today
whatevskis, months of waiting kinda numbed the blow. G’luck to the rest!

lucazzz, there are typically multiple waves

1st wave: class isn’t full come may 1st
2nd wave: class is no longer full because people who committed on may 1st have now withdrawn because they got accepted by another school’s 1st wave of waitlist offers.
3rd wave: class is no longer full because people who committed on may 1st have now withdrawn because they got accepted by another school’s 2nd wave of waitlist offers.

etc
