Official Brown 2016 WAITING Room (for wait-listers only)

hey guys, so I’ve been doing some research. Here’s what I found:

one person/ a few people ( according to Harvard’s Waitlist thread) have been taken off Brown’s waitlist last week as z-listed. Harvard waitlistees said that Brown might be taking around 10 people off the waitlist for class of 2016.

another person has been accepted to yale ( off waitlist ) and was enrolled at Brown! So, cheer cause we have one more spot available!!

Columbia/Yale/Harvard have been taking people off the waitlist ( both 2016 and z-listed) since last week

Princeton/MIT/CalTech/Stanford aren’t taking anyone off the waitlist

what do you think?
I know I am freaking out, although I shouldn’t be… I mean, the chances are indeed small, but then , so are the chances of getting in or the ones of being waitlisted. Anyone heard anything? Anyone international??

Harvard hasn’t started yet

@duda94 - I’m international! I asked for full FA too! Which is the most stupid thing I’ve ever done… that probably killed my chance big time! but then again, I’m poor :’(

This morning, I emailed the admission office to update them on my very recent award, and they just replied to me congratulating me on my accomplishment (which is quite nice of them :D) and telling me that they are on their way to evaluating my file. They probably have worked out the yield by now - and so it seems to me that they are actually going to use the waitlist this year. YIPPEE

Brown is using the waitlist. Admissions just confirmed it to me.

Here was the exchange:

“Hi, have you guys determined yet whether you will be using the waitlist for the Class of 2016?”

“You will be finding out at some time between mid-May and mid-June.”

“Finding out whether we have been admitted, or whether Brown will be using the waitlist?”

“Finding out whether you’ve been admitted. We will be letting you know at that time whether you are admitted or will be moving on in the waitlist process.”

“Okay, but you can confirm that you will be using the waitlist?”

“Yes.”

This is obviously very good news. I still anticipate few acceptances off it, but at least there will not be zero.

I got another email from the office - this time directly from the admission officer in my region. I’m going to copy and paste his words for your information!

“We have just begun looking at the Wait cases–though I must caution you that the Dean has made it clear that there will be very few spaces left to fill this year, due to the simple fact that more of those whom we were initially able to admit have committed to attend Brown than we had supposed. (The number can never be known precisely in advance, of course, but we base our estimate on an average taken from previous years.) In another week or so we will have finished our discussions. As we say in the U.S., “cross your fingers” for luck!”

Oh he’s so nice! I didn’t even ask him about waitlist or anything. I just simply updated him on my recent award and he congratulated me and went the extra mile by telling me about all this! I wonder if he likes me  …Or is he just a really nice person?

Well even though I said I would try not to think about the list through this busy week for me, I gave them a call anyway (guess my attempts at blocking it out of my mind were futile). I can confirm what cc9315 said, about it being reviewed and us being notified sometime until mid-June.

One thing I should probably call about is that I’ve sent in tons of updates but my regional admission officer never sent me back a confirmation email :/

I didn’t get any confirmation for my first update so I nagged the office asking for a confirmation! After that, they replied to all of my further updates!

I called for the first time today and was told in no uncertain terms that they were mailing decisions today.

I recognize that this contradicts some of the other postings here, I’m just repeating what I heard today.

Ahh that’s pretty big. Would you mind posting the details of your conversation?? & are you in the US?

Yeah, I’m just outside Chicago. Here’s a recap:

Me: Hi, I’m on your wait list, I’m just calling to check in and ask if you have any indication of how kinetic your list might be this year?

Rep: We’re actually mailing out final decisions today [May 14th], so you should have word in two to three days.

Me: Sending them out today, is that right?

Rep: Yes.

Me: Alright, thanks.

Rep: Have a nice day.

**I cannot guarantee anything, and plenty of you seemed to be getting ambiguous responses even today. Maybe they’re only sending out some decisions. All I know is what I was told.

Hi! I emailed Brown about 5 days ago, and the rep said that applicants would be informed within about 10 days from the time I got the reply 5 days ago. S/he also said it’s clear that they can’t take many from the wait list.

Has anyone been contacted?? Brown used to call people accepted off waitlist in the US around this time of May… I have no idea what the process is like for international applicants though! yep… anyway! how long do you guys think it’ll take for this supposedly sent letter to get to Brazil???

Also, does anyone here know ANYONE WHATSOEVER who has been taken off brown’s waitlist? Even as a z-listed? Either from school, neighborhood or sth?

Oh and, just forgot to say: great job with calls and infos guys! thanks!
And @ecieee, I feel your pain! And it’s actually nice to know that I’m not the only one international!!! Where are you from?

I’m international, but I listed my house address in the U.S. They said “we will send decisions through regular mail.”

My regional admissions officer said

We have just been informed that we will not be going to our Wait List this year. Our yield was much higher than expected. You will get a letter from our office in the coming days.

):

^This is conflicting news with what others have posted just one day ago. I can’t believe another one of my waitlisted schools has a “higher than expected” yield. :(.

Maybe it means your region? Where are you from?

I don’t know what’s going on… Just yestarday I recived this after asking about the waiting list: "Hi, Daniel.

Thank you for writing.

Alas, yes it is normal not to have heard from us after you committed to the waitlist.** We have been spending the past few weeks working to see which of the students that we admitted would accept our offer.

If you can be patient, we need to ask you to wait a little bit longer, as you are one of the top students that we have on the wait list.* We are all very impressed with your qualifications, and with what you would bring to the Brown community.* (No need to submit any further letters or essays.)

As of today, we have notified the vast majority of students that they will not be admitted off of the wait list.* However, you are one of the handful of students who we are still considering for the few spots that we may have available.

We will notify you by email as soon as possible, one way or another.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.". I am an international applicant…

Daniel, is that from your interview person? or from the admissions office?

California!
