Official Brown 2016 WAITING Room (for wait-listers only)

I would call but because I’m on the west coast I would have to do it during school (the office closes as soon as I get out of school). This plus AP testing makes it difficult for me to get in a call, but in past threads when numerous people called, the office gave different responses depending on who answered the phone – this caused a lot of unnecessary panic attacks, which I’m not fond of haha

However, if anybody does decide to give it a shot and receives good news about there being space in the Class of 2016, I’m sure we’d all love to hear it!

FWIW - Stanford and MIT over-enrolled and took no one from their waitlists. That might bode well for Brown since I would guess there any many cross-admits.

Really sorry to report this, guys, but it looks like Brown will not be going to the wait list this year. It’s not official yet - this is from a communication to interviewers, which said you would all be informed of a final decision next week. Sometimes in this situation a handful are taken off, but just to fill important gaps (like a trumpet player because all trumpet players aren’t coming).

I hope you all have wonderful other colleges to go to, and that your college years will be great.

Oh…:/

Yikes…I know we’re all REALLY hoping they decide to take some of us off. Have a lot of you guys sent in updates/supplemental materials?

Fireandrain- Would your last post apply to the RUE Waiting List as well, or is that completely separate?

Thank you.

I think it would just apply to Undergrad Applicants not RUE. And though this news kind of sucks, I’ll give the office a call tomorrow in the morning and let you guys know what they say D:

If others could call tomorrow too it would be interesting to see if we get varying responses!

Sorry for the double post, but I remember reading that the Class of 2014 had basically nobody except for z-listed applicants get off the waitlist and so I reread the thread around this time of year and found fireandrain’s post then. Unfortunately, if he/she got the same type of email that said

"Alumni volunteers received this info: that there was a 56% yield resulting in 1556 matriculating students.

“With our high yield, we will have few, if any students admitted from the wait list. Wait listed students will be notified of their status in the next 2 weeks.”"

then I would say the conditions are around the same :frowning: Not giving up till I get a letter in hand though haha

@youwrotethis man, all I can say is LIKE!

I will probably call as well.

What is z-listed? Is that when we are guaranteed to be admitted to Brown next year? That’s okay, right? :/

Yup z-listed is when you’re admitted to the next class with a mandatory gap year. At the very end of the 2014 thread nobody was accepted except for one person that said he got one of around 20 acceptances for the following year (whether that was valid or not, nobody knows). And yeah I’d take that in a heartbeat haha I’ve been thinking of a gap year on and off since March but I don’t think I’ll be taking one

Gap year? Can we still go to school? lol

“Brown admitted 32 applicants off the waitlist for the class of 2014”

Were all of them z-listed?

Somebody I know got an email to discuss the waitlist tomorrow.

@asinine: CC doesn’t represent the entire pool of applicants, so we can’t know for sure, but I would assume most were if there wasn’t enough space in the Class of 2014. Z-listing is kind of weird to me, because I don’t really understand the purpose behind it – not complaining about it though haha

@detoidi: What did that email exactly say?

I just called and was told: “We are still currently working on our waitlist…”
Brown is so ambiguous haha.

Called during my lunch today and same thing  The lady I talked to said she didn’t know either way, whether the waitlist was being used or not this year. Stuck in limboooo

I’m sure this will be assumed to be a ■■■■■ because it’s my first post, but I’ve been reading for a while and felt I should create an account to share what I know.

When I called Wednesday, I spoke with two separate people in admissions who confirmed that Brown was currently going through its waitlist. When I asked what that meant, one of the people said that Brown would be announcing its first wave in mid-May, but that she could not say the size of the wave because they did not yet know. On the second call later that day, a different woman confirmed that Brown was going to its waitlist, although she denied the initial woman’s mid-May hearback date, saying instead that it would be between mid-May and mid-June.

Fireandrain’s post, however, seemed to contradict some of this information, so I called again today. I spoke with a woman who sounded a lot like the first woman with whom I spoke, although I can’t be sure. When I explained the situation (having heard that the WL was confirmed, then hearing rumors that there would be no WL admits) and asking her if she could say if there’s any truth to the rumor, she said that she ‘[could] not disclose’ that information and that we would be hearing back at some point (I forget what the date she said was–I believe two weeks?). When I asked if she could disclose whether Brown would be going to its waitlist, she also said that she could not disclose that information, although she did say that they were currently going through the waitlist, whatever that means.

My take on it:
It seems weird for two people to confirm earlier in the week that they’d be using the WL but then to backtrack. So my hunch is that the WL will be used, just in a small wave. As an aside, I contacted my interviewer (I am currently an undergraduate at Brown and am doing this on behalf of a friend) and she said that she had not received any correspondence about the WL not being used, a high yield rate, or anything of that sort. It’s possible that the communication only went to certain people, but just thought I’d share that for what it’s worth.

I hope that helps everyone understand the situation a bit better, and I wish everyone the best of luck.

“When I asked if she could disclose whether Brown would be going to its waitlist, she also said that she could not disclose that information, although she did say that they were currently going through the waitlist, whatever that means.”

I didn’t really understand that part, but otherwise good information! I agree with your hunch, especially since fireandrain has already set a precedent for being right two years ago.

Too busy this upcoming week to call or (hopefully) think about the waitlist, so I don’t think I’ll be able to report anything unless I receive a final decision D:

I would think that once Harvard and Yale finish calling from their waitlists, if any of those called are committed to Brown, they will switch, and that causes a need to be waitlist ready for Brown.
