Official Brown Waiting Room Class of 2017

Moderator,

Can we move this thread to the main forum…I think it will get more action there as we begin to get closer to the waitlist notification date. Thanks!!

Hey guys, I just found this thread. I’m from NYC and I’ve already committed to Cornell but I’m still hoping to hear good news from Brown :/

@musicislife1595

can you request that this thread be moved? It will be easier to find it there and there will be less clutter on that page.

already done :)

so, was anyone else heard something else regarding the status of the wait list?

Harvard yield is 82% this year, is that good news or bad news for the brown waitlist?

Has anyone called to ask whether it is being used yet? PLEASE CALL

Sorry guys, I just found this. Ugh, looks like it’s about time to move on. Good luck everybody next year.

[U</a>. yield rate hits 15-year high ? Brown Daily Herald](U. yield rate hits 15-year high - The Brown Daily Herald)

Apparently only “a handful” of kids will get in off the list…

:( figured that would happen considering the rest of my application luck (or lack of)

How many applicantS are usually z listed every year?

This last year has been the absolute worst

hey! notice how this thread is not very active. This could mean there aren’t that many on the list.

…Or that we’ve given up since Brown probably isn’t using the wait list this year.

can’t be that because this thread has been really quite ever since it started. There’s still hope. you never know as the yield is a tad bit higher than expected they’ll have to figure out a way to provide space for the accepted students and in that process they might even get extra places. and those who accepted their place might get off the waitlist elsewhere leaving more space for us. We were placed on the waiting list because we were all deemed worthy therefore we all have a good chance.

Sorry but we cant possibly all have a good chance. Chances of getting off the wait list are very slim usually, and now that brown has over enrolled there is a possibility that no one will get off the wait list, like last year.

Last year yield was lower and they didn’t use the list. No reason to think they will use it this time with record high yield.

when it comes to the waitlist its best not to look at it from a statistical perspective. as it’s not a game of luck. you get accepted because they choose you not because your name got pulled out of the bag. and now that you are on the waitlist they have chosen to consider you should they find a spot. so even if there were a billion people on that list each of you has an equal chance at getting chosen. The only reason you were placed on the list is that you have a huge chance.

p.s there are less than a billion people on the list so there’s a few hundred million people you won’t have to worry about. ;-)

Are the “handful of kids” coming off of the wait list going to be offered admission this fall or just z listed?

Also, does anyone know whether they will or will not use the waitlist? It scares me to think that last year’s yield was lower and they did not use the waitlist. Why did they say they would most likely be picking a handful of students then?

@wuantonsoup Nobody knows, but it’ll probably be z list offers, looking at what happened last year.
The class of 2016 found out around this time that the waitlist was not being used by calling/ e-mailing, so I guess we should hear something in the coming week as well, if we inquire.

So I just contacted my regional representative and she said ’ We are trying our best to make decisions this week’.

Does that mean they are deciding whether or not to use the wait list or they are deciding who to accept/reject?
