@desie. I think EtiquetteOfWar is totally tactful. He comes in to tell standardizedcarl that he is a tough guy and his life or success doesn’t end because some college has rejected him, in order words telling him this, “DON’T BE SORRY FOR YOURSELF!!!”, Personally I think that’s more encouraging and gets the victim thinking. On the other hand, stephmark3 is more like, do not worry, it gonna be alright, poor you. We all know telling someone how unfortunate he/she is, doesn’t help at all. You just make them build more illusions for themselves. Tell them the way forward, give them that self-confidence they need. Telling someone," you will end up where you are supposed to be" doesn’t help so much but telling someone,“you’re an A Player, you’ll excel at whatever college you do go to” makes a great difference!!! Please think about it

I’m really liking the analysing that’s going down here.

@standardizedcarl, two years ago my daughter applied to 5 reach schools and 2 very, very likely, and 1 safety. She was rejected by 3 reaches, waitlisted (and eventually rejected) by the other 2 reaches, but got into the other three with honors and big merit scholarships. She is happy as a clam at U. of Delaware now. We will never know why the rejections, but in the end, it doesn’t matter. You know you are smart, and I hope whereever you do get in, you can revisit those schools, knowing you were accepted, and choose a great one. Someone out there wants you, and you will be happy!

IT DEFINITELY DID :DDD
you’re a psychic o-o YOU PUT TRACKERS IN MY BRAIN DIDNT YOU!! :OOO
LOL wait which school?? im in CAS ^^
YOU TOO~~

@mwahahahanna. Hahahaha, you’ve started again…always so hilarious. You know something? I wish I were a psychic, then I would have probably received some FA from BU. But it didn’t happen :(. YH YH!! got into CAS too…but then probability between BU and UBC stands at 0.3 against 0.7. BU is expensive. An alumnus told me BU often gives out reasonable $$$$ to those who have siblings or had siblings there, I didn’t take it so serious till now. I have read the thread and it perfectly ties.

@lakshay35.wow you got some great schools to wait on…I now understand why BU was just a back-up for you. Wish you the greatest of luck!!!

Turned down BU at CAS. Such an odd feeling… telling one of your dream schools; “no” after you’ve worked so hard to be accepted in the first place. Oh well, I might’ve been right for BU but they sure as hell weren’t right for me - too pricey, even with the 40k in grants.

@preamble1776 40k in grants is a lot??? jeez how much money have you been receiving from other schools???

@papertowns57 - Between 30k to full rides from other schools. For BU to be affordable, they’d have to up the grants to around 53k and that just isn’t feasible. I’m going on a full ride somewhere else.

I think your stats were too high and they might have thought you weren’t going to go.

Preamble, is that merit aid or financial aid?

My daughter was accepted to BU. Stats: 34 ACT, 4.03 GPA, class rank: 6/200. Lot’s of ECs.

Kind of surprised she did not receive any merit money, but it is what it is. At 63k/yr out of our pocket, there’s no way we could even think of her attending there. It has a reputation for being a rich kid’s school (which I’m now thinking it probably deserves!)

Northeastern awarded her a $72k merit scholarship, UConn (our state school) awarded her a $20k merit scholarship and UMass Amherst awarded her $40k. She was accepted to University of Virginia too, but we haven’t received their envelope in the mail yet. She will likely attend UConn - as will 4 of the top 10 students in her class. Lucky for us it’s a great state school!.

Congratulations to those who were accepted to BU and can actually afford to go there!

@dexter25
HEHEEE~ i dunno what i even do XDD
SAME. i didn’t get any sort of money from the school didn’t even qualify for financial aid AAAAAAAAAH
i called to see if I could appeal but nah no appeal :’(
i’m still ready to commit to BU though :3 i’ll have a better chance of getting a good job right out of college if i go there ^^
CAS BUDDIES~~~~ :DDD
WHAT? no way T.T I have family who went there but I still didn’t get anything D’:
HMPH. But hey if you do commit, COME TO WARREN TOWERS C:

Accepted! Electrical Engineering. I’m not yet sure if I’ll be attending, but right now it looks likely. Hello class of 2018!
(SAT 2260, GPA ~3.4UW ~3.8W)

I got in with $36,000 in aid!
Still kinda surprised, I wasn’t really expecting it to be honest.
1900 SAT, 3.3 GPA (had a messy sophomore year. Not counting that year my GPA would be 3.8-3.9 UW). Not too many E.C.'s, but the few that I did do I showed dedication and racked up hundreds of hours.

I think my strength was in my common app essay and my “Why BU?” Statement. Like others said, interest does play a MAJOR role. I Mentioned how I was drawn to bu after the regional admissions officer did an info session at my school (I went on a whim, wasn’t even really planning on going it even considering BU at the time…) and a whole bunch of other stuff that interested me to their various programs. I’m glad i went to the session honestly. I really do think Id fit in there, and I’m sure they did too. That’s why they let me in. Now it’s one of my top 3 choices.

Excuse the typos ^ hate using my phone

@dexter25, BU was not a backup. I had a 1720 SAT: M630 W600 CR490. My critical reading brought me down. I should’ve worked harder and improved my score. And plus i am an international applicant. I had amazing essays and good recs though.

I got into BU and Northeastern with an 1830 SAT and a 3.42 cumulative (the highest my school goes is 4.0 and I earned a 4.0 for my senior year so far with 4 APs.) These colleges obviously have a pretty holistic approach to their admissions decisions and I am proud to say that I will be attending BU next year. I think the reason I got in was due to my GPA’s upward trend and extracurriculars.

also, I was provided with a nice financial aid package. Maybe it helped that I went to a boarding school?

I got into BU with an amazing financial aid package as well. I might go, but I’m not totally sure. I’m also considering UC Davis.
