chances?

@gregginredhawk - your son’s stats are slightly stronger than my son, who is a freshman at SLO (chemistry major). His stats - 3.9 uw gpa, 4.2 weighted, 27 act, AP’s, and very strong extracurriculars. My son applied RD.

I would say your son’s chances are very good.

you’re definitely in

it says that we’ll find out our results by december 15th. does this mean that results get released before too? if so, when do they start coming out? do they come in waves? do they come in order of the colleges (architecture, engineering, business, etc)? how does it work?

Yes, decisions are made before the 15th. I believe i got mine on the 5th. As for the order, it was kind of unclear whether or not there was an order by major.

My daughter applied ED for Business Major (Entrepreneurship). Here’s her stats:
4.3 GPA
680 CR/ 520 Math
Lots of extra curricular activities and 12 plus hours a week spent working on business related activities in support of her major.

What do you think her chances are?

I forgot to mention that she attends a college prep, very rigorous high school and has 5 APs. Thanks for the feedback!

Hi Morgan5468. Your daughter will be applying to the Orfalea College of Business within Cal Poly. I think with a composite 1300/1600 SAT sets her at a very good position for admission. More importantly, if those 5 APs were within the areas of math and science then she will be recieving additional points. Each additional advanced math class above the required amount can earn you up to 500 additional application points (200 for math), to put this into comparison, a perfect SAT score will only land you up to 1650 points.

Feel free to message me with more questions

Thanks r77r77 for your feedback. Unfortunately her APs were not in Math or science, they were in English (2), history (2) and psychology, but she is taking physics and has taken math all four years of high school so maybe that will help boost her points. Its really crazy because I think the only thing working against her in terms of admission is her Math portion of the SAT test, however she consistently gets A’s in Math and is recommended every year for the honors Math class, which she has resisted because it’s just never been her favorite subject. My fingers are crossed that this one thing doesn’t keep her from getting accepted.

What are my chances of getting in for Early Decision?

Hi! I have a question about application changes and I’m hoping someone has an answer.
My son applied ED. Now, with new information, we’re wondering if he should make a couple of changes on his application. Since today is the last day to make any changes we know we have to act fast. I thought I’d see if anyone here has any recommendations.

My son has hundreds of hours in research internships. He listed his hours on the application under EC hours. We’ve since found out that these hours can be listed under WE. Would there be any benefit to going back into the application to list the hours under WE or should we just leave it in EC? He has plenty of other EC hours from other activities so he’s not worried about falling short there. Any thoughts?

Thanks a bunch!

Poly uses an algorithm for admissions. GPA, rigor of course work and test scores count for 90% of it, the rest is EC, WE, etc. It won’t hurt to change it, but it won’t make much difference either since it has minimal impact on the whole process. Call admissions. They are very friendly. They’ll tell you what to do.

GPA 3.83
ACT 34
Major : Computer Science

What are the chances?

Thank you eyemgh. I called admissions and agree with you, they really are very friendly.

SunnySoCalMom…my instinct was that it would be better to move the hours to WE. What did the admissions office tell you? (just to satisfy my curiosity!)
