**OFFICIAL CAL POLY SLO 2014-2015 Early Decision**

Don’t forget that there are non-academic bonus points; CA vet/701, Hayden Partner School/700, faculty/staff dependent/700, service area of CP/500, either parent with some/no HS/300 (per parent).

Yeah, people with really high scores that don’t get in probably missed a minimum requirement such as two semesters of a performing arts… I know a lot of high schools that don’t require any performing arts for graduation… or they made a fatal error on their application such as forgetting to put algebra 1, for example. I’m fairly certain it’s all a calculated system for admission.

So the December 15th date is not solid? We may hear before or after?

@bas0617‌ We may hear before, certainly not after. I haven’t heard of anyone hearing after the 15th, thank god ^:)^

Okay, sounds good… I’m super anxious!

I’ve been double checking dates and such. Here’s what I’ve found:

From the website:
The ‘Regular Admissions Decision’ option
Applicants admitted under this option will be notified by April 1st and must reply by May 1st.
The ‘Early Admissions Decision’ option
Selected applicants are notified of the admission decision around December 15th.
Selected applicants must accept Cal Poly’s offer of admission by January 15th. Qualified applicants not selected are automatically reviewed under the Regular Admission Decision program and notified by April 1st.
From the Catalog:
• The “Regular Decision”
Please note: Regular Decision applicants will receive notification of their admission status by April 1st and those selected must accept or decline Cal Poly’s offer of admission by May 1st.
• The “Early Decision”
Please note: Early Decision applicants will receive notification of their admission status in mid-December and those selected must accept or decline Cal Poly’s offer of admission by January 15th.

Notice how regular admissions explicitly states “by April 1st” while early decision says “around December 15th” or “mid-December”. This potentially means that we may find out after the 15th although we have not seen that in past years. I really hope that is not the case with us!

So “visual performing arts” is… visual/performing arts? or just theater

@Calpolyplease visual/performing arts can be a lot of stuff. I got my visual/performing arts credit from marching band, so it isn’t only theater

what about guitar, ceramics, drawing, photography?

Ceramics and drawing definitely, but I don’t know about the other two.

Roxy401 if you put down algebra 2 and forget to put algebra 1 they’ll still count it as two years though

That’s true. When I called them when I was panicking about how I thought I didn’t put the right number of semesters for my middle school maths, they said that they understood what I meant and apparently even though I didn’t put in all the semesters for those two basic maths, they still counted it as a full year. So it isn’t necessarily true that if you made a minor mistakes like that, the system will automatically reject you… (if it was a mistake regarding something like my math one.) Especially for maths, they say they mainly look at your high school maths and the most advanced ones you’ve taken.

@aohair520 the reason for this is the individual majors. Although many majors go under the ‘engineering’ category majors like mechanical engineering are significantly harder to get into than something like civil engineering. Out of state vs. In state also plays a roll.

@ohhibye yeah haha I freaked out at basically the same thing

tomorrow will be the day I can feel it B-)

I hope you’re right

That’s what we said last Thursday and Friday :-SS

But after the weekend it’s like… Any unfinished business was taken care of and they were able to get everything done and not have to worry about it anymore. Right??? Because who would want an extra week of unfinished business ? Hopefully not cal poly admission people. Hahahah.

@aohair520‌, one possibility is what @Ohhibye‌ suggested. That explains a high stats applicant getting rejected. What most either don’t know, or forget, is that the MCA has bonus adders beyond just the academic and EC stuff. That’s how lower stats applicants do get in. Being a California Veteran adds 701 points to your MCA. If you’re in the CP service area, 500. Either parent didn’t finish HS, 300, both, 600. There are others, but as you can see, they can have MAJOR impact. So, some may debate the fairness, but in no way is it random. It’s a straight mathmatical algorithm. Wishing you all lots of luck!

Edit: looks like this was well covered. I just didn’t scroll to the end. Oops.
