So excited!!

Friends, please, lets all step away from the computer and take a few deep breaths. Its admissions season, we’re all very stressed. Let’s focus on the college stuff.
@trkeith93 congrats on your admittance!!

@vergil531 no word from any EE, CE, or ME majors, yet (as far as i know from looking back on the thread). don’t give up hope! the admissions office said it still takes a while, and others have received decisions a few weeks after so there’s definitely still a chance! best of luck to anyone who is still patiently waiting :slight_smile:

@ashleylinh Thanks, i just hope that they come out late as they r one of the most popular major.

@surfergirl‌ -

That’s my point, even though I’ve done all the research, there are so many factors that it’s impossible for one individual to say if someone will or will not most likely get in, barring the extreme outliers. Congrats to you, I’m happy for anyone that gets in! Your gpa may trump my completed classes, who knows, there are thousands of people applying, it could be any number of factors.

Last year the process that determines how students are admitted was made public (perhaps not by SLO). Everyone had access to the PowerPoint, as a result anyone could see the EXACT process Cal Poly uses to select students. @joogman23 simply remembers how the algorithm works. He is not an insider (or acting like one), rather he simply remembers how the score is calculated and can do it fairly easily.

I, for the most part, also remember how the MCA score is calculated. Because of my knowledge of the process I decided to take a year off after being wait-listed and eventually denied last year. I was very confident I would get in this go-around; however it appears I’m on the outside again. This probably means that SLO is letting in even less transfers or there are some extremely qualified applicants compared to last year.

So, most of you guys need to just expect that SLO isn’t going to be your home. It’s not because you are not qualified. It’s because of the unique selection process and the EXTREMELY limited amount of transfer spots.

I too would like to see Master Joogman’s credentials.

GED2Degree,

Exactly! There were actually two powerpoints that I found that had different point systems based on certain criteria.
If your parents didn’t graduate high school that gave you an additional 300 points towards your total score per parent. I actually considered putting that my parents did not graduate high school, because they do not check (I called and asked an admissins officer about this), but decided against it because it would be unfair and bad karma to lie and deny someone a chance whose parents actually didn’t graduate high-school. Also, according to one PowerPoint, you would receive an additional 600 points if you lived in the service area. I actually considered moving down to SLO last summer (and spent a week in May checking it out) in order to increase my chances based on geographic area. When I called to ask admissions about that, they said it wasn’t a factor, but I don’t see how one could be a factor and another is not. Also, Cal Poly does things their own way compared to the larger CSU system.

I spent a lot of time researching all of this information and it was one reason I took 4 classes during Summer 2014, because I thought that having all my pre-reqs completed before applying would give me the best shot (echoed on their website as well) for acceptance. But, even with all the research I did, I would never tell another student that they have a good or bad chance to be accepted and would never present myself as someone with definitive knowledge of the process as joogman23 did continuously. He never talked about the PowerPoints, instead he said that his job was to help people get into school, but offered no evidence of a company or organization he worked for to bolster his credibility. I just have a problem with someone giving out misleading information to other applicants and acting defensive when questioned about their qualifications. I think there was some truth to what he was saying but it’s not fair to other applicants to act as if you somehow have the inside track on admissions when you’re just a transfer student who is getting their information from the Cal Poly Admissions office. I was accepted into Cal Poly Pomona today, but they are completely different schools and I wouldn’t assume because I was accepted into Pomona I’ll be accepted into SLO. Given all the research I did I hope that I get into SLO, but I also understand that although last year’s info was a good map, it is not the territory, the territory being the actually admissions office.

Anyway, I wish you and all of us luck, including joogman23, where he may be.

I was accepted yesterday for Fall 2015. Comparative Ethnic Studies 3.4 GPA, IGETC and assist.org courses for major complete.I was rejected as a freshman and got in as a transfer student so I am super excited!
I did not receive email notification, just logged into MyCal portal and my decision was there. So keep checking your portal.

Just my opinion but I was accepted yesterday with a 3.4 GPA with all course requirements met. So I would say course requirements being met trump GPA, plus your specific major and how impacted it is matters, which can vary from year to year depending on the applicant pool for that major. The criteria for each major are clearly spelled out on the Cal Poly website, better than any other CA school I have seen. http://admissions.calpoly.edu/applicants/transfer/criteria.html

Just got accepted yesterday for Fall 2015 with a 3.5 GPA. Majoring in microbiology. Met all general ed and major course requirements. I’d honestly say GPA isn’t the most important thing. Meeting all requirements and the major you choose are important, as some are much more limited in space. Keep checking guys, I know not every has received a decision yet. Good luck to all

@dantecal‌ @GED2Degree‌ Well, quit questioning people and face reality. We are all in, you are out. Time to go to Pomona, and ged2degree = ged2sleep

and that whole process is inaccurate. joogman might be a liar but who cares. this is the internet, people hide behind a computer screen. cry me a river dude. theres more to look forward to like Davis or Pomona, I would never step foot at either place let alone get a degree there but hey good luck and if you want to come see us you can come to babeville aka cal poly.

@shoenice Good luck at SLO with your lack of basic sentence structure, poor punctuation and childish rhetoric. I hope you are majoring in communications.

No need for negative comments. I am one of the unfortunate applicants that did not receive notice, some of us may just be sad for example myself I stayed an extra year and half at a CC and was one class away from completing all required courses but could not take it. So for SOME it hurts to have tried so hard for our dream school and still have an ounce of hope left to be hearing comments like negative ones here. No matter what college we go to we will still get just the same experience as SLO, so to each their own for people trying to talk down on other colleges or individuals on here.

@businesslady001‌ i think it’s safe to say that slo Is a crap shoot. You never know what can happen. What I’m trying to get by is that everyone needs to calm down and take a breath. College is what you make of it, doesn’t matter where you go. Slo is a good school but there are more out there that are better in many ways. This is not the end of the world. I respect you, and I hope the best for you in your college choice.

@shoenice,

Congrats, once again I wanted to clear the air for applicants who were relying on a partially informed source for their hopes of getting in. The admissions process is somewhat of a crap shoot, but people who haven’t been accepted yet shouldn’t give up hope until they’re officially rejected. Also, I’ve already checked out Cal Poly and the babes are ok, especially when you’re coming from a major metropolitan area. I was more interested in the academics. Granted, based on your avatar I’m probably a bit older than you and have had my fair share of fun already. Anyway, good luck, glad to see Cal Poly accepted such a highly intelligent applicant.
