****official cal poly slo class of 2018 decisions****

@jnmaietta, don’t lose hope for today as I remember reading about acceptances up until 5:30 - 6pm last night.
YES, it is frustrating but I guess it does teach us patients, lol

@TenfromLA & @CDSMOM We are in the same boat, Humboldt’s housing is non refundable, so we are taking a pass on that school (for this reason and a few others around their housing set up, but that will have to be a PM- not going to talk about it on a public forum) So we will pay the housing for Chico also- all but $5.00 refundable.

“Especially because out of state students pay the in state prices after 1 year or is it less??”

This is not true. It is virtually impossible for an out of state student to become a CA resident for UC or CSU purposes.

Joyful1, The state law for establishing residency for tuition purposes has changed – making it much more difficult to get in-state tuition. It now takes about 3 yrs to qualify for in-state tuition, so Cal Poly is getting much more than a single year’s worth of out-of-state tuition money from these kids. That’s what makes them such a prize.

See: <a href=“Tougher than getting the degree: getting California tuition - Mustang News”>http://mustangnews.net/tougher-than-getting-the-degree-getting-california-tuition/</a></p>

“Cal Poly not only lacks the human touch when it comes to admissions, but this is a school that requires all applicants to choose a major when most high school seniors have no idea what they want to do with their lives. How many other schools require everyone to choose a major?”

I agree that this is somewhat ridiculous, but it is part of the whole approach of the Cal Poly campuses (there are two in the CSU system), and to some degree, the CSU system as a whole. If you don’t like it, you should not go there. Cal Poly SLO is attracting many students because of its location, cost and reputation. The trade off (assuming you can get in) is accepting their method of educating students.

The admission process is excruciating, but read last year’s UCLA admission thread. They were just as frustrated! I don’t know of anything they could do better - because if they said “we’re going to start alphatically”, then one college is ready before the other, everyone will be outraged. Although it seems the decisions are coming one college at a time, but then you read other replies and it seems pretty random. But, at least once one of the colleges “begins” accepting, you will know you can “begin” to expect a decision…

@joyful1 - Ironically, my oldest daughter is a sophomore at Humboldt! This is her second year in on-campus Housing, and she has been lucky enough to get her first choice each year. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions…or just need to vent.

It would be nice if Cal Poly could post something on their website about the process of releases, etc. that way they would limit the hundreds of phone calls to the admissions office asking questions on a daily basis.

Ok, if I ran CPSLO admissions, I would define each applicant as Admitted, Wait Listed, or Not Admitted. I would update all 51,000 rows of the database with this one attribute and then announce that the results are posted. If they cannot handle thousands of simultaneous users, then they should buy an email program that can pick the attribute from the database and send it out by email.

It’s crickets in here. Did they not send acceptances today?

There were a bunch for the lib Arts around 9-11 am. It is rather concerning they stopped there…nothing for about 2 hours. Hoping they will pick up again later, but this is just getting tiresome. Whatever

Got accepted for sociology today between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm. In state freshman applicant. 1350/1600 sat and 3.6 uc gpa

Maybe they are having troubles with their system.

@Jnmaietta - I can’t imagine why;)

Anyone see a Psych admission yet?

No engineering acceptances today? Bummer. This is just aggravating

Maybe once they release some acceptances they wait for some guarantees’ back before sending out more that day. If you think about it, Cal Poly sends out thousands more acceptances than they have spots for. 5,600 spots to fill and 10 to15 thousand offers, what are they to do if thousands more except the offer? I actually asked that questions during my call to them yesterday and the gal said they will make room for the students because they would honor their offer. Of course she did say that some applicants will be rescinded, and many students will choose to go elsewhere.

Hey everyone!
So by chance, I checked my CalPolySLO portal last night and I got in! I was under the Environmental Planning and Lab Studies major, so basically a biology major.
Stats:
3.8 UW GPA
1910 total SAT (710 W, 600 M, 600 CR)
29 ACT
I live in California.
Good luck to everyone else!

That really does not make sense; people are not accepting their spots minutes after being accepted. Notification is not required until May 1. Almost every UC and every other desirable college has to manage that process, and somehow, they do.

It was just a guess, “GoldenWest”. No one knows for sure what they do, frustrating non the less!
