Son accepted last night (8 pm PST) into computer Science. CSU GPA - 4.15; ACT: 33

I can only give you my experience from 4 years ago plus what I have read on here each year. The acceptances are releaesed by major over a 1-2 week period. And contrary to what other people are saying, I don’t believe there
are more ‘waves’ within each major. After all the acceptances are out, students not admitted will start
seeing changes in their statuses from ‘no determination has been made’ to ‘you have not been selected’. I am
guessing this will happen next week. My son got a reject leter in the mail 4 years ago and the date on it it was Mar 2, but
I remember that we saw the status change at least a week earlier. I
don’t know the waitlist procedure. Something that seemed different this year was that they did all of the out of
state students in one group first.
Also, for those of you still waiting, I hope I am wrong and more people get in next week.

Any other Aerospace Engineering accepted? I’ve only seen two so far. Congrats to all the were accepted. We’re still crossing our fingers!

@jbourne - thanks for the voice of experience. Most of us will only do this once, so we’re having to wing it, so to speak.

Liberal arts anyone? @jbourne thank you!!! I called the admissions and she said pretty much the same thing. I think the 2 week period ends the 28th

@jbourne, there aren’t that many waves, its sorta said here to make people feel better. depending on your major and how many people say yes right off the bat, they’ll begin to send out more acceptances to fill out the slots. personally i think we have 2 more weeks because last year they went from the 12 through the beginning of march

do you think all engineering has been admitted yet? Civil engineering major here, and pretty much freaking out. Applied, knowing that civil engineering was not as competitive, but from what i have seen, they seem to have the higher scores of other engineers. do you think that it is just the college confidential community, or that all CivEngs are this high? I am literally dying of stress right now as slo is my #1 and the other colleges that i applied i have chosen not to go to, because i despised the campuses, so if i don’t get into slo, i will be going to SRJC. Stats are: SAT CR+M- 1430, GPA-3.4uw and 3.6 csuw, 10aps(10,11,12) and i go to one of the most challenging and rigorous high schools in the nation (that was supposed to play a role).

S got accepted into civil engineering, email this morning. YEAH!!! stats 3.85 UW, 4.2 W, SAT 2160 with 770 math. In state, bay area. Good luck everyone who is still waiting.

dont think calpoly really cares that much about rigor of highschool tbh i have identical stats to u, slightly lower sat for business…i’ll be honest, you are an edge case. I was also surprised of some of the stats for civil eng here but that should be due to CC’s sample size.

know that because your an edge case, your acceptance letter will come near the end of feb OR you go to the waitlist. others may say, oh you have a chance, but as someone whos literally going through the same thing as you (and we’ve been waiting since the dawn of this god damn thread), it may be beneficial to start looking at other schools and putting calpoly off to the side. dont let stress get to you, cal poly is so competitive and because of their selection process, they may not see the full picture of candidates like us. there are other schools who will but maybe if all things work out, you may see yourself dawning a calpoly sweatshirt in a few months.

S is starting to stress (ok I am too.) Applied for Mech E. Looks like they are coming up. Thought his stats were good. SAT 1 Math 740 CR 630, SAT Math 2 740, CSU GPA 4.28.
Ranked 6th in class of 550, African American Male (not that rank or URM are considered.) Older S was rejected from SLO for Mech E 3 years ago with STATS almost as high and went on to be accepted at USC Viterbi- doing very well there. So I know that it all works out.
Just need to be patient and hang in there I guess.

Kinesiology?

@tschaser, yeah, it is just in my nature to stress, i already have a cal poly sweatshirt i have been on here since the beginning too. The only thing is i only applied to ucb, ucd, cal poly, and Chico, but i hate Chicos calls and it is the only other one i have gotten into. Well soon we will know, hopefully we both get in and see each other at orientation!

Chico’s campus

@TSchaser

Cal Poly measures rigor by the number of classes you’ve taken in a given area and by adjusting for honors/AP/IB. For instance, if you take the minimum required math your admissions algorithm gets no bump. If you take more, it gets progressively higher, up to 500. The sciences also have similar levels of bonuses. Considering the algorithm’s max score is 5000 or so, a bump of 500 is HUGE, the honors/AP/IB bump your GPA.

Students who don’t take LOTS of math and science, meaning at least ten semesters, even if their school doesn’t offer them are at a disadvantage, even if they have high stats otherwise. All of the “bonuses” can count for something like 25% of the admissions algorithm. The academic rigor outweighs test scores and ECs combined. This is the sole reason that some with good GPAs and test scores, still don’t get in.

They make no distinction for the quality of your HS education. What you will ALWAYS have in the bank, whether you get into Poly or not, is that you will be better prepared to not get into college, but to get out. That’s where the rubber hits the road.

Good luck.

Yeah,i plugged in my scores for the algorithm and got ~4300 which to me seems like it should be good enough, but oh well, just waiting

@eyemgh

Yes yes, i know. I was just informing justin that the highschool itself doesn’t matter. I’m actually DEPENDENT on those MCA points to get me into acceptance range I qualify for all of them except the english one, so i hope that may be enough to balance out my gpa.

I really do appreciate that bit of advice. I’ll be honest with you, i’ve fantasized going to a much lesser school while thinking it would change everything for me. I’ve had my lessons learned at my school and I’m thankful for every single one of them.

@justin7473

hopefully we will

No news yet on my daughter’s app for RPTA. We had a serious talk with her last night about plan B, which currently is Chico State. We are still waiting on her late app to UOP, but it’s not in the major she has her heart set on. She also applied to SDSU, but that was a reach school like Cal Poly. @joyful1 - we just might see you at Chico’s orientation!!!

@justin7473 how do you do that, I really wanna figure mine out.

@eyemgh, yeah, i have taken 20 semesters of math and science (12 math and 8 science) 10 of which are ap/honors

@zacattack16, i used this website http://www.act.org/epc/ppt/EPC 2013 F1.2 Maraviglia Amos.pdf and divided total points allowed to max (SAT, gpa, whatever) so like 2250(total points for gpa)/ 4.2(max gpa)= a number. multiply that number by yours and you get a point number. not sure if i entirely did it correctly by from what it shows, i did
