****official cal poly slo class of 2018 decisions****

add this part: 2013 F1.2 Maraviglia Amos.pdf

@TSchaser and @eyemgh, since they do it by algorithm, does that mean that if a student with a lower score than me gets in, that i will too? that seems like it should be the case. also, were they more lenient to OOS students? because i definitely out scored some of them in the algorithm and it would suck if they were, because it is a CALIFORNIA state university, and should teach CALIFORNIA students.

unsure about OOS but it SHOULD be harder. honestly dont know.

scorewise, yes u should but the thing is you have no idea what extra points they could be getting. so while they have lesser gpa/sat, they may be in the slo area + parents with little education + low income etc. That could give them the slight bump over you.

It looks like decisions trickled out through the end of February last year and maybe even the beginning of March. All is not lost yet. This next week will probably have many acceptances. After that, not so sure.

@TSchaser, well oos i don’t think they are in the area, i am low income and my mom never graduated highschool, and my dad didn’t graduate colleged( didn’t know those played a role, so now i have even more points which is suckish because i haven’t gotten in! >:(

Justin 7473 – Cal Poly has a 2-tier admission system, as explained in this 2010 article: http://calcoastnews.com/2010/11/cal-poly-courting-out-of-state-students/

In-state students compete with in-state students and out-of-state students compete with other out-of-state students.

@keseykat, yeah, i read that and i think that it sucks and is completely unfair, despite their deficit

@justin7473 thats great then! you’ll have quite a few extra points, although they pale in comparison to the MCA ones. slight bumps that would help you out…have u calculated your score yet? if u know what it is, u could make a pretty good guess on whether you’d be admitted or not

well i used that one thing that calculated the MCA and i got ~4300 so with the extra ones, it should be about 25-50pt bonus, which makes it ~4350, which is only 650 off from perfect and is 350 higher than you need for engineering. which begs the question: WHY NO DETERMINATION YET?!?!?!

@TSchaser, ^^

do you think it would be best to just wait for an email/ text and stop worrying about it?(not sure if i could do it, but it seems like it would help)

id reccomend that. i was going to do the same but i’ve slowly lost my obsession over calpoly. if it becomes overbearing again i’ll leave and just wait for something to come by email. As for your score, it looks alright for the second wave, but keep in mind the min for engineering is probably rising every year.

@tschaser, so there is going to be another wave?

I am still waiting on computer science. Anyone else out there? should I be worried

@tschaser, yeah, one of the OOS Civ Eng’s got in with just over a 4100

Does anyone know how alternate major works? If they don’t have room for you in your intended major, do they then consider you for the alternate major that you chose? I chose Economics, but after doing some research, I found that about 60 only are admitted… However, my alternative was Business Admin, which has a much larger admit pool (600+). Though, I know this is also due to Business Admin having a larger applicant pool than Economics.

uh huh. as per my understanding, the top bunch, aka anyone with in the 4700 mca range got a letter of acceptance. (fyi this is EXTREMELY rough guess work but judging from the acceptances so far, we’re looking at the very top of the pool).

And keep in mind many people at the top are extremely qualified and may be using calpoly as a safety and/or even higher schools may accept them. so they wont all be going to cal poly.

this requires cal poly to send out more acceptances until they fill their slots for the freshman class. there will DEFINITELY be another wave, but you dont know how many they will accept or how far down the MCA ladder they will go. as they go further down, more likely of getting acceptances because the students will see cal poly as their top school. very generalized point of view, but yeah.

every past year has had acceptance waves going into march. this year they started a couple days late. i wouldnt be surprised if it went into the end of first week of march…then we may see the waitlist/rejections.

@justin7473 - I share your frustration. My son has applied for Aerospace Engineering. I calculated his MCA to be around 4550 and he has not heard anything yet. His stats are Cal Poly GPA-W: 4.25, SAT: 1410 (760M + 650R), 650 bonus points for extra math and science courses, plus around 200 points for EC/work/leadership. I realize that Aero is one of the toughest majors to get into, but it’s still frustrating.

All that I know is that I got 700 points based on taking more classes than the minimum which is pretty good, I’m not sure how to convert my ACT score over though.

@hellogoodbye111, my son is still waiting on Computer Science. What are your stats if you don’t mind?
I posted some of his stats on page 1, but I can post some more.
gpa , uw - 3.92, weighted, - 4.32, sat - 1980/1340 cr/math, act - 30, 6 AP’s, 3 Honors, 3 on apwh, 5 on apus, Sat II - us history 750, math, 730
class rank, 43 out of 443
