ok, so @tschaser, and @bluebird10, i actually have ~4550 if you include ALL of the extra points, but on the mca, it sets a limit of 750 extra bonus points, or at least that is what i saw on there, if there is not a limit, then my chances are even higher. also what stinks is that i got a job the week I applied, and didn’t count it, because i didn’t know how many hours… now i work ~10 hours a week so that is 100 pts higher that i could have gotten

Pretty sure there is a limit, so you cant go above the set amount for extra MCA points.

Anyone know how competitive the nutrition major is? or how many students are accepted into that major?

@justin7473 - I believe that the maximum for extra courses is 950 points:

English (10 Semesters; 100 Bonus Points) Algebra (4 ; 0 Bonus Points) Geometry (2 ; 0 Bonus Points) Foreign Language (8 ; 100 Bonus Points) Lab Science (8 ; 200 Bonus Points) History (4 ; 0 Bonus Points) Performing Arts (4 ; 50 Bonus Points) Advanced Math (4 ; 500 Bonus Points)

Did anybody get accepted to a Biology major yet?

yeah, but the MCA only counts a maximum of 750

Actually not sure about what i said above…might be able to go above 750 if the total is 950 or w/e, gonna go find out…

anyone hear about Kinesiology yet?

no janice, some have come out but there are plenty waiting. no decisions today

Ok Ok, the way I see it and they aren’t very open about it, but about 65% of those that get in are based on the MCA only without the extra points for low performing schools, parents education etc., it does include the bumps for extra classes. 35% are mandated and include the father/mother education level under HS grad is worth 300 each, coming from a high school in their service area is worth 500 points, coming from a low performing high school adds 500, don’t think any of you are veteran’s or children of staff so those don’t matter. I agree that it looks as if probably the higher MCA and mandated people have been notified, these, especially in the technical areas have the lowest attendance rates as they use cal poly as safeties to the very top schools. My guess is they wait a bit to see how many accept right away to give them an indication of the next group to accept. They go by the number period except for the few exclusions like athletes, out of country, non graded etc. OOS is a very small percentage and are sadly important as my understanding is that the additional tuition goes 100% to Cal Poly. I have also been told more than once that hardest to get into for the public universities are Cal and UCLA, next tier are Cal Poly, UCSB, UCSD then Irvine, Santa Cruz, Davis, CSUSD, SJSU, CPP, we joke if you got into UCSB you got into Cal Poly and vice versa.

@newyorkcityliven, to my knowledge they don’t consider alternative majors, I would suggest a call to admissions on that.

@zacattack16 on page 26 of this report http://www.act.org/epc/ppt/EPC%202013%20F1.2%20Maraviglia%20Amos.pdf has ACT/SAT conversions, but I think there is simply a different number you multiply the ACT score by.

@keenone in 2012 56 attended out of 471 applications.

They limit the additional credit you can get for extra classes to 750, that is not the max you can add though as there are still the mandated extra points you can add.

i see. thanks for clarifying

@czs1994 - Thank you, 750 points does appear to be the total maximum allowed for extra courses.
