**OFFICIAL CAL POLY SLO CLASS of 2019 Regular Decision** Thread

@bdoobie I would say that until you get any update on your portal, then you still have a chance. Good luck !

I applied for aerospace engineering but I haven’t heard back yet. Does this mean I’m probably will get declined, because people from aerospace were accepted yesterday? My academics are slightly below average compared to what I’ve been seeing. (Rate me Please?)

CA is accepting more OOS. Think about it…It is all about the $$$$$. CA needs money (and rain). OOS pay full tuition with no subsidy/CA grant. I am not sure about whether or not they can qualify for the merit scholarships. We are waiting to hear about Economics.

Anyone in Liberal Arts or Journalism get decisions?

Does Cal Poly offer merit scholarships like the UCs do?

Many of you doing all the “statistics” I hope realize that they never updated the target reports for actual reports, so you have no idea of actuals since 2012. They have not yet released the number of students they are hoping to admit for 2016, even though acceptances are out, and I would love to know where you heard they only look at reading and math on the ACT. Also @joogman23 seems to post some good information and some very bad, such as few turn down admissions. Cal Poly is actually a safety school for many applicants, so it they have to accept many more students than they would if they had a high attendance number of accepted students. In fact the yield (number of accepted students who attend) of 31% so less than one third of accepted Business students actually enroll at CP. Also depending on the yield rate, which lately has been higher than projected, there can be a lot of waitlisted students or only 1, who end up being accepted. It is all a numbers game. For those complaining about it taking a few days/weeks to find out, remember Cal Poly accepts by majors, other colleges accept by college, so it is a finesse game at Cal Poly. Sometimes they are only looking at accepted a handful of students. Also Cal Poly has no interest in what school district you come from. If a school is getting a lot of students accepted at Berkeley and not Cal Poly, it might be that you don’t take enough science and math (extra points for taking the preferred number of semesters) or you missed one or more of the required classes, each class missed is at least a -500 points. So if you missed that fine or

To compare UCs to Cal Poly as UCs are PhD colleges and Cal Poly isn’t, is ridiculous. Look at admission stats. After Berkeley and UCLA it is very arguable that Cal Poly ranks next some would give it a tie with UCSD and UCSB. Other than in a couple of majors no other UC comes close except Davis. The compare class sizes, try to make it through UC Berkeley or others without a class above 1000 or multiple above 250, most except for a couple of GE courses at Cal Poly even lower division classes are around 25-35 students. Then, let us look at how many of your classes are taught by Professors, almost all are taught at Cal Poly by Professors, those that are not are either “catch up” classes, or very early lower division classes. UC’s most seem to be taught by Grad students. Next try to do research at a UC as an undergrad, nearly impossible, yet doing research at Cal Poly even as a freshman isn’t unheard of. The facilities at Cal Polys new science center has equipment that even Berkeley doesn’t have. UC’s

@joogman23 I have no idea who you purport to be, but you aren’t at Cal Poly. UC Davis over Cal Poly? First crime statistics at the two universities are similar. Davis is not in the Bay Area, depending on the major Cal Poly students are prime applicants for the jobs in the Bay Area and everywhere, and high tech, Cal Poly grads are in high demand in the silicon valley. The beach is the only activity at Cal Poly? They have the number 1 in the nation Performing Arts center, one of the top recreation centers, hiking right behind it and all over, ever hear of Bishop’s Peak and the P. A fabulous down town very student friendly, more clubs than you can count and is a bit more sophisticated than Davis. They attract different kinds of students, but it is pretty universally accepted that Cal Poly ranks above Davis in most areas. Regarding Animal Science? Well let us say without a bunch of vet school students, Cal Poly’s students have to care for and assist with all the livestock, and their pre-vet students get in at all the best Vet schools, including Davis. The person who mentioned the hands on learning philosophy, is correct, it is greatly desired by employers and students alike, and Cal Poly may not be known by students all over the US, however, employers do know about Cal Poly which is why you will see it as a college with great ROI’s and higher starting salaries than UC Davis.

For those that have been accepted, does anyone have any idea when we will receive official letters in the mail stating that we have been accepted? Just curious… Tell me what you think!

Here are the selected students for class of 2014: http://admissions.calpoly.edu/prospective/profile.html.

They selected near to 15,000 and the yield leaves them around 5,000 actually attending.
*Cal Poly brought the same pamphlet to a transfer fair this fall at my community college.

@lagunitakid You will only get an email. Maybe a few weeks later (it varies), with a video and some info. But you wont get one in the mail. Hope this helped :slight_smile:

I think ya’ll need to stop being butthurt. CalPoly and Davis, as well as the other UC’s, are all great schools. It’s just a matter of personal preference, and we are all entitled to our opinion. So let’s not call anyone out. @joogman23 has been quite helpful in previous posts.

What’s up everyone?

Hahah can someone rate me? (Post 582)

@Colanzio5‌ Your GPA is a little low but your courses are rigorous and I’m pretty sure CP SLO will consider that. You also have a wealth of EC’s so I think you have a decent chance.

@czs1994‌ is right about the “statistics.” There are some big unknowns. First, they are CP predictions. Actuals by major aren’t posted, only by college. Second, the yield is known to hover in the 33% range, but it isn’t known if there is differing yield among majors. With that said, what other school is as transparent about their admissions?

As for Cal Poly being a safety school, this cannot be stated loudly enough. Cal Poly can not be evaluated as an entire entity, only by major. It might be a great safety for Landscape Arcitecture or Construction Management where admission rates are predicted to be very high. You would be crazy though to think of Poly as as safety for majors like Mechanical Engineering or Biology where admission rates are expected to be well below 20%. No one would consider Cornell a safety, yet their admission rates and student academic profiles (GPA and test scores) are very similar to the profiles of the students in the toughest admits at Poly.

It bears repeating, for some majors, CP is to toughest public admit in CA. It should come as no surprise that it is possible to get into ME at Berkeley or UCLA only to be rejected by Poly. For some Poly majors, competition is fierce.

@Colanzio5‌

You have great stats, like a lot of people. It’s seems so random with so many qualified people for so few spots… I think you have as good of a chance as anybody. Also I don’t think cal poly looks at ec’s so much into their equation. But until your portal changes, I think you definitely still have a chance.

@67dadofsenior‌, CP does offer merit scholarships, but not much. Our son was awarded $12k at Poly with stats that netted him $100k at Case Western.

So they won’t release any more over the weekend?

@5nonnegotiables @Jehkobe

Thanks! I think i’m honestly looking for a little comfort after seeing so many students with incredible stats get accepted. Good luck to everyone else applying!

One other thing. I know this deviates from Cal Poly exclusively, but how does SDSU’s aerospace program for a student in the honors college compare to Cal Poly’s aerospace program?
