@iluvducks, TAMU and Poly are very different. Even though Poly might be a bit more conservative than the typical Cali beach school (I’m guessing due to the Ag school influence), A&M will be far less balanced politically. If your daughter has a strong conservative lean, she’ll fit in. If not, it might feel awkward. I’ve known several who considered themselves fairly conservative who transferred out of TAMU for that very reason. Also, I don’t want this to come as a slam to Texas, but…it is Texas. College Station vs. SLO with Avila and Pismo, you might never get her back if she sees the Pacific.
Katiesw, that was a very helpful post. We haven’t been yet as we are waiting to hear if she got the in state tuition scholarship. That’s the only way she will be able to attend. If she gets it, she will certainly go visit. She knows people who love both SLO and TAMU. Do you think you’ll be choosing SLO?
Eyemgh, she is conservative and would like to attend a school where she won’t be constantly berated for her opinions/values like she is at her current high school. For some reason, Texas intrigues her. Maybe because it’s different and not California. She has grown up in San Diego so she knows the lure of the beach. That’s a big plus for SLO. The negative is that it is in California. Part of her wants to experience somewhere different. We just have to wait to see if it’s affordable. I thank you for your input. Every bit helps.

It is very hard to compare schools on here without someone take offense and trying to sell CP, which I suppose is expected on the CP forum, but still. There has been some great info about TAMU versus CP and frankly, I cannot imagine two more different schools. Politics aside, TAMU is a huge big spirit school and everything that goes along with it. CP is quiet as a mouse and has very little spirit compared to a school like TAMU or any big conference school. A future student should be able to decide quite easily which their preference is as the experiences at each will be totally different. Some may feel Texas is Texas but you can’t deny they are big and loyal and fun when it comes to their colleges. Compared to many other CA towns, SLO is cute but just a dot on the map, even beach wise. No slam intended, but just don’t understand the constant oversell. It’s a state school and simply an affordable choice, but it isn’t for everybody. If someone wants to experience something new, be in an urban area, go to a big spirit school, or get the perks of a private education and can afford it, CP is not for them, simple as that. Constantly referencing the “I know somebody that was unhappy elsewhere defense” to sell CP seems a bit overused and unnecessary.
Can we separate the long paragraph arguments and the acceptance posts into different threads? Its getting pretty annoying, I’ve been following this thread for admission updates and stats. Also, what’s up with so many parents on this forum? Its like the parents are more interested in the details about admission than the students themselves…wow
@joogman23 Roughly what percent of the incoming freshman class is chosen from ED?
@joogman23 Im an AG major, wine & viticulture. in state- slo county resident, also dad retired from the IT department last year. and have many many cousins who have gone and graduated. its in my blood lol.
yoooo are transfers finding out tmrw? Im dying here
@iluvducks, somehow I thought you were in Texas and she was thinking of coming to CA. Oops. Guess she has seen the ocean.
She’ll do great in either location. They are very different, but both good schools.
@isaiahahhhchuu I’m hoping that in state students do too! Waiting is so hard…
@23wq5r43 Im not sure, I don’t want to give you a figure either because I could potentially be way off. What I can say though is that for ED applicants when SLO is running them through the Algorithm, they only factor in the four main sections. When people are differed to RD, SLO will run the four main sections that I posted PLUS bonus points that have been discussed.
ED is worth a shot, you never know what’ll happen. It is just strictly based on stats. RD is stats and bonus points like applicants from the service area get a huge contribution to the Algorithm on top of their stats. I hope that makes sense.
@leandraduke niiice, you should be in no problem this week.
any in state Ag majors hear back yet?!?!
@Sunflowergirlryd I’m instate Ag major and I haven’t heard yet D: but I think they will probably start releasing around noon(?) because that is when they started releasing the decisions before so…
I guess last Friday after releasing OOS engineering, slo planed to release in state engineering and then their system crashed. I wish today their system will be reliable.
Do you know when cal poly kinesiology majors will be notified? Does it just slowly spread, or does it depend on when you sent In your application. How do they notify. I know they give out a few by day, but do they do it by who applied or what.
Has anyone OOS or in state heard for Political science?
@tlhs2015 They notify by major. It can be a painfully slow process. Good luck!
My classmate got in for Biology and I too applied for bio but heard nothing yet. We are instate applicants. Good luck to the rest of you
Does anyone know if decisions might come out at 11-12 again today for possibly instate?
