I hope they release CAED tomorrow! Is there anybody else in architecture, etc. that’s waiting?
@eyemgh Were those merit offers, without regard to need? Assuming from the number at Case, that was over 4 years. Is that correct? If merit, how and when do you learn of the award? Portal? Follow up email? Phone call? USPS? Btw, what school did your son choose? Either of them, or something different?
Wait so are college of engineering decisions pouring in? My portal still says “no decision made.” Then again, it’s a weekend.
@boywater I’m waiting on ARCE
@fastSLO Are you in state or out of state? I’ve been waiting in state but it seems that CAED hasn’t been released at all! I hope they start tomorrow at least
@13singh SLO unfortunately doesn’t release on weekends at all! Hopefully tomorrow it’ll start up again! It seems they’ve only released OOS engineering, perhaps not even all of them
@kmwhms @leandraduke @shiftyloo11 @sunflowergirlryd
I am an ag major and I posted on Friday night that I got in. Animal Science major from Texas. Not sure why no one else has heard back yet??? Hopefully y’all will hear soon:)
my OOS D was accepted into engineering. she would like to have a liberal arts context to her education - would coursework at CP in history, philosophy, english, etc be just as rigorous as that in engineering?
Katiesw, my daughter got into both Cal Poly SLO and TAMU as a microbiology major who is also interested in agriculture. Any thoughts from a native Texan on SLO vs TAMU?
@boywater I’m in state as well
@shiftyloo11 @kmwhms Im in-state, residency is SLO county actually.
Hope you ARCEs get in!!!
@mom2twotallgirls of course not. Engineering, anywhere you go will likely be harder than liberal arts degrees. Getting into slo for engineering is an accomplishment, I would urge her to pursue that. Sure it’s her decision, but paying OOS tuition for a liberal arts degree is something you may want to reconsider. To each his own, but that’s my two cents.
@leandraduke hmm, I see, good luck!
@Sustenance - I apologize that I was not clear. My D wants to continue to take classes in the liberal arts as electives in addition to the coursework required for her engineering degree. I am trying to ascertain how challenging those types of classes at CP are. Her current AP English, History, and Economics classes have held her interest and have been just as challenging/rewarding as her AP Physics C, Engineering Design, and Number Theory classes are. That’s what I meant by “liberal arts context”. She does not want to do engineering to the exclusion of other things, but rather have her engineering education be informed by them.
Does anyone know how long this admissions process lasts? Will it just continue to slowly trickle out with the not admitted students notified last. It seems they only got through 3 or so majors over the past week. Very frustrating wait.
@leandraduke what major?
@cassidychamplin My daughter is also Ag Comm & Jour and is waiting to hear also. Please keep us updated if you hear. We just checked her portal and no change. Have any in-state Ag Comm majors heard back?
@iluvducks i think your decision will come down to the vibe each place gives. SLO is much different than College Station (aka CSTAT in case you hear someone say that)
TAMU Overview:
Football loving, maroon bleeding, class yell screaming, longhorn hating, howdy saying, die hard aggies.
If you go to Texas A&M you will be an aggie forever. Its part of the culture. College Station is a one of a kind town that you’ll either love or hate. Everyone there bleeds maroon and is unafraid to share it. You can’t go anywhere without seeing an A&M shirt. On top of that, ag students are very prevalent because of the vet school there. It might be hard to find a job in a vet clinic or any ag related job because there are tons of people looking for those same jobs. Because A&M is an SEC school, football season is madness. This is incredibly fun (you know how texans love there football), but could also be a little annoying when the whole place is jam packed with every person alive. Another pro of TAMU, is the enormous amount of tradition. You will see as soon as you step on campus. You must learn to greet people with Howdy, and you will have to learn your class yell. Another personal favorite of mine is the Century tree. This is a large tree in the middle of campus that has a history behind it. Whoever you walk under the tree with, either intentionally or on accident, is said to be your soul mate. On the flip side, if you walk under it alone, you are said to be forever alone. This is super funny when someone doesn’t realize they are riding their bike directly towards it and literally jumps off to save themselves. You will also see proposals under the tree, which for girls is the cutest thing ever. Overall, I would say that either school is going to be a great option, but if you want an experience full of tradition and a forever aggie family, TAMU may be for you! If you have or could visit the campus, this would make your decision easier because most people either love A&M or hate it. The stereotypical “you will know when its the one” is very fitting for Texas A&M:) Hope this helped.
@67dadofsenior, merit only, yes, over 4 years, $3k per year at Poly and $25k per year at Case. Case is much more expensive, even though he is OOS at Poly. Assuming graduation in 4 years from Poly, they’ll be about the same cost. Of course, a bit more if he takes 5.
