Awards: I have about 60 awards from mathematical competitions but they are from local competitions. The most important award is a 2nd place in a international mathematical festival in Kiev.
I have written 2 mathematical projects and one of them is with a special award from Ministry of Education.

I need a financial aid. Probably applying for Finance? Is the Business School of NYU prominent?

l0lin’ i just became a member of college confidential in order to discuss my potential acceptance to nyu!

Planning on applying ED to CAS
QUESTION: is financial aid/scholarships in the slightest bit more available to one who applies ED? i would really appreciate the ability to afford going to my dream school!

Major: English (would like to double major in social science such as anthropology, economics, sociology, linguistics, etc)
Minor: Spanish (maybe something cool like metropolitan studies?)

btwz, imma white boy from tha dirty Jersey

GPA: (currently being re-converted from a 4.5 scale to a 4.0 scale which will be in actuality a 4.3 scale due to the fact that the school doesn’t want to remove the weight added to honors/ap courses. yeah i really don’t get it either) ANYWAY, it will most likely be between a 3.95 and a 4.0 (94 or 95)

*QUESTION: regarding the SAT and ACT, does NYU prefer one over the other?

ACT: 32
English: 34
Math: 30
Reading: 32

My HS is top 30 in NJ/sends a few students to NYU every year

Also, my teachers LUVVVV me so I best be gettin’ some good recommendations ( ;

P.S. I love NYU/have wanted to go there since sophomore year. W00T w00t

are you a US citizen studying abroad? i’m not sure if you’re considered “International” or not and that makes a big difference. are you a citizen?

competitive chances, just try to distinguish yourself in the essay, because on paper you kind of sound like every other Stern applicant. no offense. just rock the essay!

international student are scrutinized more. you are not eligible for financial aid. the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at NYU is very highly regarded. you need to raise your critical reading SAT score, and i would suggest submitting three SAT IIs. international students are fighting an uphill battle and i’m not quite sure how to “chance” you. :-(

1) yes, ED students get a little bit more aid, but not much more. our financial aid sucks. a lot. A LOT. but things get iffy with ED and financial aid. . . if you really need significant aid, i would apply regular because then you can compare financial aid with other colleges and ask for more aid.

2) no, NYU takes both and considers both equally because they like applicants from all over the US.

a) NYU will reweight your GPA according to their standards, but 94/95 is good. (New Yorker here, i hate the 100/100 grading scale now, lol.)

b) CAS doesn’t admit by major, so they don’t ~really~ care what the major is on your application.

c) your ACT is a little above average (avg is 29-31)

overall, i feel like you have a fighting chance. if you can, i would recommend taking another SAT II that you would do well in because that Lit score is good.

I am interested in applying to NYU Gallatin.

Stats:
Male
Suburb of Boston, MA
rising senior
my high school sends some grads to top schools (depends on what you consider “some” and what you consider "top schools). My school has sent students to Boston College, Boston University, NYU, Oberlin, Occidental College, Cornell, Tufts, Swarthmore, Wellesley, etc.
GPA: 93.3 unweighted / no weighted GPA
class rank: 47/386 = 12.2% (will most likely [if not definitely] be within the top 10% next year as I’m taking twice as many AP courses and the level of our courses is the only thing that influences our class rank)
SATs CR/M/W: 660/610/710 = 1980
I haven’t taken the SAT IIs yet, will be taking them in English and French
I have only received one rec yet and it was amazing, but it will most likely be used as an additional rec because it is from my singing teacher.
My essay is not completed, but I’ve been told the beginning I have is great

I’m also first generation.

@missamericanpie thank you! that is definitely encouraging. I have a question though: with the new standardized test policy, can I choose to only have them see my ACT scores? From what I’ve read, I thought that an applicant chooses the test scores that he or she wants to send.

This is a dream school of mine, I think I’m a long long long shot, so I’d like to know if I have ANY chance at all. I might apply ED if it helps. I would still be ecstatic to get into GSP.

your stats are solid (SATs are a little low? what’s the 610 in?).

Gallatin’s number one concern is that your concentration is something you are PASSIONATE IN. hit the essay out of the park. seriously. they want to see that you are driven (and on paper, you do seem driven) but they also want to see that you are academically independent.

stats look really good. but you can’t apply as an IR major right off the bat. it’s an Honors major. you need to major in something else. but CAS doesn’t admit by major anyway. you would have to major in Politics.

what’s your unweighted? NYU reweights the grades of applicants before they go in front of the committee. if it’s below 3.0. . . :-/.

the rest of your application looks solid, and the SATs are great, but the fact that you got those grades the first semester junior year is kind of worrying.

i don’t know what the current stats of people who get LSP’d are, honestly.

does NYU put a lot of weight on course load? because i skipped 2 grades of math and will be submitting a 5 on BC calc (taken junior year). will that help my application a lot, or is it still the same as every other stern applicant?

SAT II: Doing Math II and Bio expecting 800 and 750

So what do you guys think? any opinions would be greatly appreciated

I am a white female from a good private school in FL. 4 graduates from the class of 2009 are going to NYU this year. I want to apply ED to CAS. I will not be requesting financial aid if that makes any difference.

GPA (UW): 3.8
GPA (W): I have no idea, but it must be higher. I thought the 3.8 was my weighted GPA, but my councilor told me recently that was actually UW
