[li] Other stats (Awards, etc.): IB Diploma Candidate National Hispanic Merit Scholar, National Merit Commended, AP Scholar, Academic All-District for Swimming, All-District Outstanding Hispanic Young Leader Award
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[list]
[] ECs listed on app: Varsity Swimming (I wasn't recruited though), Speech & Debate Team with many regional awards, student-body Vice-President, VP of Natl. Spanish Honor Society, Physics Club, Co-President of Youth Council (at church; heavily involved), National Honor Society, etc.
[] Job/Work Experience: I worked 3 jobs the previous summer: one as an assistant pre-school teacher, one as a nanny, and one as a hostess/waitress. I worked in the restaurant for about 17 hours a week until the end of January.
[] Essays (subject and responses): One of my essays was about riding in a car with one of my future Yale classmates. The other was about my last name and re-roofing a house. They were pretty quirky, and I didn't show them to anybody who knew me, so I really don't know what the response was!
[] Teacher Recs: I sent in 3. The first one was probably really good. The second was probably just general and kind of bland; she didn't know me that well but complicated circumstances led her to be my only option. My optional rec was from my IB Psych/IB TOK teacher who I am extremely close to, and it was probably eloquent and glowing.
[] Counselor Rec: She doesn't know me at all, but I wrote her about a 1000 page essay so she could "get to know me." I guess it worked out fine.
[] Interview (feel, interviewer and general location): It was at a Starbucks on a Monday morning. I kind of made myself seem like a fool because I didn't explain Theory of Knowledge very well and then couldn't remember how to pronounce Nietchsze (or spell it, apparently). It was OK, though.
[li] Hook (TASP, RSI, Research, etc.): Nothing like this. I do have a TON of community service though, and it's all actually pretty original.
[/li]

Location/Person:
- State or Country: Texas
- School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): public, we send maybe two or three kids to Ivies + Stanford each year
- Ethnicity: Mexican and Caucasian (I put down both)
- Gender: Female
- Income Bracket: ~$100k?
-Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM
- Strengths: diversity of interests, URM, writing
- Weaknesses: my "numbers" could have been better, I suppose...I don't show that "true" passion that is always talked about
- Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: A lot of it was probably because I'm Hispanic, but I'm OK with that because my dad has suffered his whole life from discrimination but he's made things better so that I could do something like get into Yale. I feel guilty for it, a little bit, but I'm not one of those people who pretends she's Hispanic or takes advantage of that random grandfather who worked in Spain for a month in the 30s to gain admission. I also think that I showed a lot of 'intellectual curiosity' in my essays.

Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I had just been rejected from Harvard (I wanted Yale more anyway) and was a little bit disappointed, and I really couldn't believe it when I saw 'Congratulations!' I read it about 50 times so that I could make sure it was real. I got into Princeton also, so I leapt up and ran to tell my mom (she didn't even know decisions were coming out today) and in the process smacked my leg on this desk-esque thing, causing me to gush blood from my wound for about 30 minutes. It was OK, though, because I was so excited about Yale that I was like jumping up in down for an hour and didn't feel any pain.

Long story short, I love Yale, life, and ya'll.

EDIT: I really can't figure out this formatting, sincere apologies!
