[ b]General Comments: I got in, and now I have to make the decision between New York, Boston, and Charlottesville. I thought that it would be an easy one...UVA is amazing. Boston is like home for me so it would be the easier option, but I really think that looking back I would regret making the easier choice. And may I just say...I must have gotten so lucky in being admitted. As I look at the stats and presentation of the kids in this thread I'm so...humbled. D*mn. :-) [ /b]

My friend is going as a Jefferson scholar...what exactly is that (I didn't apply to UVA)?

It's UVA's most prestigious merit-based scholarship where you get the full cost of attending covered plus special seminars & activities, foreign exchange opportunities w/ other Jeff Scholars, etc.

http://www.jeffersonscholars.org/

sounds like a good deal!

anymore from this yr

just out of curiousity, is it easier to get in as an international student than an instate student?

i doubt it....my guess would be that it would be harder as an international student that an out of state student

From what I've heard, it depends on what country you're from. If you're from China or Korea, it's probably fairly difficult to get in. If you're from Panama or Kenya, not so much.

Re: Jefferson scholarship, it's all that is described above and much more. The Jefferson Scholars are kind of a class of "princes" at UVA, highly regarded and invited to many special events held just for them throughout their time at UVA. It is a great addition to anyone's resume - in the same vein, albeit to a different degree, as being able to say Phi Beta K. or Rhodes Scholar. All that and total FREE RIDE to boot.
Students who are offered a Jefferson Scholarship at UVA and regular admission to Harvard or Yale, for example, have a tough choice to make even if their families can afford Harvard or Yale. And that's exactly why UVA has the program - to attract those kinds of kid.

Stats anyone?

yea and accepted or rejected out of state URMs specifcally
