Official Class of 2011 College App Support Thread

Wow same here! I’m turning in my apps in November and I’ve only written a very very primitive draft of my Common App Long! I feel so underacheived, esp when I had all summer to do this!

I’ve already made my college list, but sometimes, I feel too lazy to apply to my safety schools that I don’t even like that much. I feel like it’s a waste of time…sighh
But who knows? I just feel so afraid that I’m rejected by every school I apply to :(

The more I further into finishing the app elements, the more I discover how unique everybody is. But it’s a grueling process.

Applying to…
Occidental, Reed, Lewis & Clark, Northeastern, maybe Northwestern.

 • 3 or 4 UC’s.

I wrote my Common App essay and revised it once. It’s not nearly finished; apparently my English teacher prepares us to be extremely good writers, so hopefully that will help my future revisions.

Oh wow, I feel so behind compared to all of you. Although, I did start the common application as soon as it became available on August 1st…

I don’t really have a set list of schools, but most likely I’m applying to:
Amherst
UT-Austin
University of North Texas (That’s just in case I get rejected everywhere else, and to appease my parents…)
Southwestern(Seems like a match for me…)
and I think that’s about all for now.

I don’t even want to think about the essays. I’m an excellent writer, but I write creative type stuff, not boring essays! ;)

I started Aug. 1st, and I’ve done everything that’s required. Only thing I’m missing is my recommendations. I’m applying to Stanford, Carleton, DePauw, Ithaca College, UofNotre Dame and a few others. Right now the financial aid stuff is confusing me way to much.

■■■ I can’t even VISIT schools until the end of october… :(

^ I haven’t visited and am not going to visit half of the schools I’m applying to (at least until after acceptances come out, I guess). Eeesh.

How are you guys coping with the “Why?” essays? Mine are killing me.

^I know how you feel. You shouldn’t over do that part, so talk about why the school should fit you. Say unique things, that no other school has. Don’t be vague (ex: I love how xxxx is known for there rigorous courses.) For that one school I can name 19 others that are known for that also. So make it about you and only you, not everyone else.

So… I have no essays even mapped out yet. I keep defending my procrastination, with saying that I can’t force them out, but I know I really need to get started…

The essays are the hardest part for me too.
Im like what the hell am I going to write about that would truly make me stand out?
sigh

And you guys are lucky that you have reliable guidance counselors. there are only 5 guidance counselors yet my school has 1200 students -_- does everything in her power to prevent hyperventilating

lololololol

Haven’t started anything…and I’m applying to Ivies/Top 20. I have ideas though, I guess that’s a start.

@ rosco - Wow! We’re kind of alike. My list also consists mostly of Texas schools (including Southwestern and UT) with one top LAC which is the oddball of the group. I jumped on Common App (a day too early as it seems - I thought it came out Saturday… then realized Saturday was July 31st not August 1st) & I feel the same way about essays. Just thought I’d note the parallels :P

I am insanely envious of those who have already finished their common apps + essay. School starts in a week for me and I hate the idea of finishing out the applications while juggling school and ECs. Maybe something in class will inspire an essay.

To the people who think they’re behind… you’re really not. MOST (and I mean a huge percent) of kids are going to start their college apps in September, when school starts for most people. Even then, I’m sure it will take a few weeks for most kids to actually start.

Anyway… my list of schools is too big. I think I have 16 schools right now. 9 of which are reaches, 5 matches, 2 safeties. >_< My parents said to apply to as many as I want and they will gladly pay, but I dont want them to lol

I don’t know if this is on topic, but my mother informed me that if I were to be accepted to UGA, they would pay NONE of my tuition. Not a damn dime.

I am pretty damn stuck right now. I have pretty much no idea what to write my essays on.

I know what I’m writing about and I sort of have an outline. I have all kinds of time.

@starfruit: I feel your pain. I have like 1 safety, 2 matches, and 10 reaches.

Ugh today my Mom took me aside and asked me if I was spending my time wisely. Lately, I’ve been taking an hour long bike ride each day, playing harry potter wii for an hour, and watching an episode of The West Wing. She thinks that I’m relaxing too much. She told me she wanted all my college applications in before school starts (!). Ugh. Not happening. She’s okay with me turning them in in October now, but it was stressful.

There’s so many things I want to write about, but no one idea is really sticking out right now. I haven’t started any of the Common App. yet, but I’ve been thinking about it. Also, I’m continually debating the ED/RD decision. So much to do! But it’s exciting. :)

i’m so scared…college…
