REJECTED :( That's ok...God has another plan for me, maybe he wants to challenge my faith by going to another University and convert others into catholiscm!!! (which that would be cool), I dunno if I'll transfer, I'm still shocked by the decision :P

"The message sent is "You're good, but not good enough. Too bad you didn't have a parent who had attended here. You probably would have been accepted."

Brandon'smom, for ur info ND's accepting rate for its legacy is only 25% one of of four legacy kids. regular was 32 % last year. But i understand how u feel but i am sure it was not beucase of legacy issue. I wish i had a "perfect" sat score.

Lol.
Well, I wasn't sure if I'd get in to any top schools, so I applied to several and luckily was accepted at UVa, Cornell, and Notre Dame. I'd love to go to all three, but that isn't a possibility, and Notre Dame fits me the least. Plus, financially and time-wise, visiting isn't an option, and I couldn't enroll in a school I didn't visit. Of course, if I get my fin.aid packages and the UVa and Cornell packages fall tremendously short of Notre Dame's, I'd swing out there to check it out.
If I end up declining Notre Dame's offer, I hope it helps some of you get in!

I'm sure it's got to be tough dealing with disappointing news. I think a lot of things factor in besides test scores and GPA's--class rank matters a lot. Then there are all sorts of intangibles that I don't think anyone understands that isn't sitting in the room as they make a decision.

I do think, though, that everything happens for a reason, and I hope that Brandon has an excellent experience wherever he goes--that he is happy and thrives there...

"for ur info ND's accepting rate for its legacy is only 25% one of of four legacy kids. regular was 32 % last year"

Even though they say that I still believe that legacy is a major role, I bet about 50% is for legacy, 15% for non-catholics, 10-11% URM, and that leaves about 25% chance for all the others which is based on luck... Congratulations to everybody that got in!! and for all those rejected LIke ME!!!! lol j/k it's cool...you can still transfer :)

I am shocked that Brandon did not get in!

How could he not????

How were his essays? Teacher Recs??

Im feeling for him.... he definitly deserved to get in.

Same here. When I read his stats, I gave up on getting in. It is obvious that he is a great guy, and he will succeed wherever he ends up.

"I gave up on getting in"

Oh dont say that.... We all have a chance.. some smaller than others

Im still in shock that he didnt get in tho

When people say test scores do not mean all that much in college decisions they are wrong. I seem to be winning this game when it comes to rejections from all these schools. GPA is important, but test scores seem to make or break the app unless you are a minority, legacy, or athlete. Best of luck to all those accepted. I still have yet to hear from Wesleyan, but it will be a thin envelope probably. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute here I come. College admissions got the best of me.

Brandon's mom, college admissions are a crapshoot, maybe the admissions officer just didn't like some part of the application. And dont blame legacy either, Im not legacy and I got in. Furthermore, whats wrong with Vanderbilt? With his scores, he should have gotten a full ride there. If I had gotten a full ride to Vandy, I would trade my ND decision any day...speaking of which...want to trade?

danbrenn - please don't give up on getting in. You have just as much a chance as anyone.

chillin til 08 - thank you for your feedback. B's teacher recs were great; his essay was about his football experience in high school . . . how this was a sport he had no natural talent in (unlike basketball and baseball) and how bad he was at it when he first got on the freshman team . . . how many hours he put in off-season and during summers to get better . . . how he studied the game to learn as much about it as possible . . . and how he went from one of the worst players at the beginning of freshman year to captain and county All-Star in senior year because he never gave up.

Without going into detail, there were more poignant & dramatic topics from his young life he could have written about, but he chose to focus on the positive.

I will pass on everyone's good wishes to Brandon. Thank you.

Let's not make this a referendum on ND's admission standards. I'm sure they had their reasons for waitlisting B. And it's not like he has nowhere else to go! smiles

There are many kids out there who have been accepted to ND; congratulations to all of you!

waitlisted?? still mad? join the facebook group

Wow Brandon sounds like an amazing person....

If hes not number 1 on the waiting list.. he better be on the top 5

Those numbers are Ivy... he apply there?

Wish him good luck for me...

SweetLax88 - the question was why do YOU think you were waitlisted. I was simply giving my opinion.

I'm glad you got into ND not being a legacy. Congratulations!

And there is nothing wrong with Vandy . . . in fact, quite the opposite. I'm thrilled for him that he got into such a terrific school. They are offering him lots of merit aid. And it's good for him to see that a such a wonderful school appreciates him.

How on earth did you infer from what I wrote that there was something wrong with Vandy?

Thanks for all the encouragement from everyone. I did get in, but I really didn't expect to at all. My prayers are with everyone working through the admissions process.

Congratulations, danbrenn!!!!

Chillin, I wouldn't differentiate too much between the average ivy leaguer and the average domer in terms of scores and ability. I was number 2 in my class and 3 & 4 went to ivy league.

me neither putschcasusbelli
I was just saying that Brandon was pretty much top notch in all of the stat categories.... and therefore thats why I said Ivy...

Id chose ND over yale or harvard..... and im not even kidding

No no Brandons Mom, I didnt say that you said that Vandy wasn't "good". I was just simply saying that its a really good deal (a lot better than the one I got) and Brandon seems really distraught over ND when Vandy is just as good of a college (If your not doing business). Thats all. Besides, with those numbers, Im sure he's at the very top of the waitlist.
