It marks a dangerous time in higher education when what to any non-biased observer is a tier 3 school gets 28,000 apps. One article calling it a member of the "new Ivies" and suddenly it is Harvard #2. The faculty is no different, the resources are not better, than in prior years it is simply that demand has increased. The best schools are the best schools; simply getting more apps does not improve an institution. No slight intended, I have a masters from another well regarded Jesuit school, but BC is simply not a great school. I am concerned that the mission of Jesuit schools to serve the greater good will be diminished once the school is filled with academic superstars. These students who thought they would get in tier 1 schools will surely realize that in order to get into the best grad schools from a Boston College they will have to be in the top .5% of their class (it is not a great feeder school) and the environment will become extremely competitive.

What happened? Am I the only person that was waitlisted and got a low 1300 SAT score? This is crazy. Everybody else waitlisted got at least a 1400. I guess they really liked something.

someone's negative...

BC a tier 3 school? And to go to grad school you'd have to be in the top 0.5%? You obviously don't know what you're talking about.

http://www.wsjclassroomedition.com/p...ege_092503.pdf...don't seem to see BC in the top 50 feeder schools...at least not on this WSJ list

so, if a load of people who applied to bc from my area heard today and got accepted or waitlisted, does it mean that i got rejected since i havent heard anything?

[ b]Waitlisted**

DECISION:

[]Stats:
[] SAT: 1290/1990

Tier 3 would not be the right words. Tier 3 describes a school like...SUNY Brockport maybe. BC is Tier 1, but the far lower end of Tier 1, which includes all of the schools basically in the 40 or so of USNWR National Universities and top 10-15 of LACs. BC may be Tier 3 within Tier 1, but it is certainly not in the main stream definition of a third tier school. With regards to grad school, you are a little off. Competition to get into the best grad schools of course is increasing, as there are more qualified applicants from undergrad schools that you would have never seen applicants from in the past. Does this mean you must be in the top 10 out of a class of 2250 at BC to get into grad school? No of course not. All you have to do is look at our med school acceptance statistics every year to see that this is false. Also, I am of the believe that the school does improve as the quality of students improves. The best physicist in the world is not going to help a student in an intro physics class more than the 1000th best physicist would...therefore these differences are basically irrelevant at the undergrad level, and they are precisely why BC grad programs are not very highly regarded. At the undergrad level, I would rather go to a school with BC's professors and Harvard's student body rather than the other way around.

you guys might want to add EC's to those lists, they play a huge role in admissions...

can you guys add EC's to those lists? they play a HUGE role inadmission and this data is almost incomplete without it

I'm really confused as to why I was waitlisted. I have a 3.75 UW, 31 ACT, lots of EC's and I'm Jewish, which my GC said was like a hook because BC is trying to get more diverse. I'm not going to take my spot on the waitlist because in reality I wasn't going to go there anyway, but thought I was going to get in.

college decisions are really unpredictable, my stats are subpar compared to the other people who got accepted, and i got in. i really have no true explanation, but recs are vitally important to decisions made.
